2007 SL65 Brake Job

I am going to replace the front brake pads and rotors on my 2007 SL65. Are there any special tools required? I do not have star and plan on just unplugging the brake controller.

With these rotors do you replace them every time the pads wear out or will they last longer than the pads?

Thanks in advance for your time.

Those rotors are a 1000 a piece, if they're not too worn and car doesn't shake when you brake, you can just do the pads. How many miles are on your car? To do them, just unplug the SBC plug from the unit and/or remove the negative terminal from the trunk battery and then just do them like regular brakes.

I got the Brembo same part for less than $800 for both shipped. They are identical just different part numbers as Brembo makes both. So I do not need any TORX bits or anything?

You'll need a T30 or 25 i forget, to remove the little screw holding the rotors in. 2 bolts hold the caliper bracket from the back just like most brakes. you'll need a punch to push the guide pins out of its holding place for the pads as well.

200mm guide pins will keep you from marring the calipers and wheels. You can borrow mine.

You mean to get the pins out? I used a rod piece I have the fit in the hole. I didn't mar them but thanks for the offer!

The guide pins screw into the lug bolt holes to guide the wheel back into alignment during installation. This saves scrapes and scratches on the calipers and the wheel barrels. I bought three 200mm guide pins from Reverse Logic.

I will have to look into those. I usually just cradle the wheels with my feet and push it up and on but I see your point.

Beautiful car brother, that's the best color combo and very rare. 9/10 R230 are either black or silver.

Plays With Cars
That SL65 is stunning, exactly the color combo I would want!

I just did a full brake job on my SL63 and did not replace the rotors. My car is at 60k, unknown if the rotors had ever been replaced, but they had zero vibration and very little ridge around the perimeter. I also replaced the pads before they had worn to the point where they damaged the rotors. I went with Stoptech carbon-ceramic pads and am incredibly happy, they have better and more progressive braking than the OEM pads that I removed and make a LOT less dust. I believe I bought the pads from Rock Auto. Despite re-using my rotors, I have no noise or vibration. Just as FX noted I simply unplugged the SBC controller while doing the work then re-connected when complete, no issues. It's actually a very easy job, the only real challenge is getting the guide pins tapped back into place when they are under spring pressure.
