2003 SL55 AMG GT , 2000 BMW 323I coupe
To use or not to use?

I was curious if most if the SL55 AMG drivers use the left and right air intake tubes that feed air to the filter boxes or are they removed entirely?
I'm not convinced that more air enters thru those tubes.
Do you keep them on just for cosmetic reasons? Any comments are appreciated.

you get more air pressure from the inlets at the radiator when the car is going at speed, and its cold air. not hot air in the engine compartment

It's a cold air intake. If you remove the tubes you'll have a hot air intake. Cold air = more power.

I see this all the time, even on BaT, whereby the stock cold air intake set up is removed in favor of some stupid red cone filter thing left exposed inside the engine bay. What part of cold air versus hot air do people not understand?

I understand the restriction is at the headers on the exhaust side or the throttle body inlet

The air boxes themselves are the restrictive part. Remove those and use the stock tubes and a silicone 45 elbow or go all silicone. My build thread covers this pretty well. I know it's a 65 but same idea applies to the 55 and I had a 55 as well.
