Cutoff Device for Consumer Battery

Hi.
I drive an 2003 SL55 AMG only 500mi / year, and store it in a garage with no electricity outlet. I have to buy a Consumer Battery every time I use it :-(

Hence a few questions
  • Can I put a cutoff device like this one, on the picture?
  • If so, I heard that all the electronics need to be re-programmed. Is it true? What need to be re-programmed and can the re-programming can be done not at an MB dealership?
  • Last, should I put a cutoff on both batteries or one on consumer one will not impact the charge of the front one?
Thank for your help.
JM

At your garage is there any way to run a solar panel with a voltage regulator to the consumer battery? The starter battery is isolated and I wouldn't bother with a cutoff. My S class has a battery behind the dash that holds settings, but I don't believe the R230 has that nicety.

Hi Zoso7. Thank you for your comment. Unfortunately, underground car park, where building owner forbid tenant to install electricity plugs :-( Hence, my question to find a solution.

I used that on my S class but the connection started getting crappy and eventually threw it out.

I would get that or just disconnect the battery for long periods in the trunk.

I think you'll be fine, in the case it loses the sync, its just resyncing windows and turning your wheel to the left and right to get the ABS/ESP light off.

Bring the battery in the house and keep it on a maintainer. Its very easy to remove .

I keep my 2005 SL55 and all my collection on battery tenders. I have it wired directly to the battery. I too drive mine less than 500 miles per year. The car is now almost 17 years old and only had to replace the battery once.
