Lovely video! It sounds pretty nice too! Just a couple of points, I thought it was 612bhp and 0-60 of 4.4sec? Is the 3.6sec an independant time and if so who carried it out?

Also where are the pics!? I have seen 2 in the other thread, anymore? Congrats on the beast once again.

> I thought it was 612bhp and 0-60 of 4.4sec?

In the US, it's 604HP - same power, slightly different measurement scale.

I haven't seen ANY reliable 0-60 figures for the SL65 other than the old "prelim" numbers. Given the 0-100 figure of 8.5sec I measured, 3.6 is in the ballpark - but I'll have solid figures after my trip to the dragstrip next weekend.

Excellent, looking forward to the timings. So whats the difference between HP, BHP, RWHP etc.?

As a rule, HP == BHP == power measured at the flywheel. RWHP == power measured at the wheels - so BHP less losses for transmission, diff, and inertia in the driveline. Also, IIRC power in European specs is measured in DIN HP, while in the US it's measured as SAE HP, which results in about a 2% lower figure.

Question Mr. Treynor, How Far Can Renntech Take a 65 Engine?

Thanks Treynor for an awesome video!!! What we all need is more video's of 65 AMG cars !! :p

Can you tell me how far Renntech can take a 65 engine with regards to upgrades in horsepower and torque??

I remember you saying that they can go way beyond the 650 hp/ 840 lb/ft torque upgrades? So how far have you found out they can go?

Also, does your SL 65 in the video have the Renntech ECU upgrade?
And, if not, are you planning to get it and also maybe go all the way to the very limit of what Renntech is able to do with the car's horsepower & torque upgrades?

Lastly, have you considered having your fenders widened so that you may put much much wider 345/25 ZR-20 Pirelli Tires on the car?

Thanks again for the info updates and the video !!

He mentioned something about them having the car up to 690bph.

I'll attempt to answer your questions.

In these videos, my car is BONE stock. The ECU update will come soon enough...

I haven't installed RENNtech's ECU yet, but I think they have settled on about +45 RWHP / + 80 RWTQ as the limit of what the tranny can take reliably. I'll provide you guys solid numbers once I've done a baseline dyno, installed the ECU, and redyno'd. Certainly, the ECU's ability to allow burnouts and brake-torque launches will help the SL get out of the hole if it has the traction.

I have not considered widening the fenders. I like the stock look for this car. It's a sure thing that it could use more traction in 1st, however, and I'm looking to get a pair of 18x9.5" wheels and spooning on some drag radials for the 'strip and for screwing around on the street.

Treynor, if convenient please dyno your 65 before adding the ECU mods! Given the factory’s HP spec, this will show the car’s driveline losses and allow for an estimate of flywheel HP for all the Renntech 600s out there that dyno at about 525 RWHP. My bet is that driveline losses are less than people think, so the stock 65 will dyno at 540 - 550 RWHP.

Thumbs up So 690 Horsepower is the absolute limit then?

690 horsepower is the absolute limit then for the 65 cars? And I'm assuming torque around 900 lb/ft would be the limit for torque on it also?

There was a few months ago in one U.S. auto magazine a guy in the Northeast who is going to start having his company offering internal engine upgrades for these V-12 engines, and he claims his S 600 Sedan will be up around 800 or more horsepower when he's done, and then he'll start offering these upgrades for the public to buy. I don't know if the tranny could withstand that much power, but maybe he's working on an upgrade for that too.

I and many others hope to see a lot of video's of these 65 cars, especially the modded and/or customized ones ... beating the hell out of bimmers on the road & the track .... :v

I intend to dyno my SL65 before mods. RENNtech has already done so for a different SL65, and got 511 RWHP - a 15% loss from 604 BHP.

I will of course post the results of my own dyno pulls.

She's fun isn't she?

I already have close to 12k miles after only 11 mos of daily driving. I just can't seem to get my self to drive the SUV! The power, torque and ease around town just can't be beat. True, I don't have a 65 but, I'm damn close! Have fun with the RennTech upgrades

60 MPH is achieved in 2nd gear - in one of the two videos, the whole pull is in 2nd; in the other it starts in 1st but after the tires spin (with a screech and a lit traction control icon) the tranny short-shifts to 2nd.

Next vids should be in-car shots up at Sacto raceway this weekend
