SL55/63/65/R230 AMG: Stock SL65: 11.7 @ 126 !!
Enough said! I could sit here all day and type alot of Bullshi* in this Norb forum but that is all it would be after seeing this. thank you MBZ USA. done posting until I have obtained the SL65.
Peace out! and many props$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
First, thanks for sharing your enthusiastic experience with your Silver Arrow Edition SL65 and how quick this ultra-performance 'vert is. Amazing mid-11 times for such a heavy GT cruiser stock! It's kind of like a 3rd person, remote perspective of actually owning an SL65
Would you mind giving us some insight as the best way to launch our SL55/SL65s from your experience? Traction-control off? RPM to launch? Manu-matic or let the trans do the work? I'm curious and interested to know from others' insights.
ESP off, short burnout to warm / clean the tires.
ESP on, no brake torque, release brake & nail throttle at the last yellow. The computer is better than I am at managing wheelspin.
It'll be interesting to see how this all works with the drag radials...

I'm going to try to make it to a test & tune in a couple weeks. Arrrrrgh!!!
"Brumos recently went to a "Targa 66" Event in Savannah Georgia. This is an event held by Brian Redman, in which you basically drive whatever you want on the track. The event is 3 days, and this one was rather small because it was at Roebling Road, in Savannah. In attendance were about 40-50 Race Cars including the Grand Am Maserati, E36 IMSA M3, a bunch of mid-late 90's indy cars, Lowenbrau 962, and much more. As far as street cars go, we drove up in our SL65, and there was also one Carrera GT, about 4 360 Challenge Stradales, 3 Elises, 2 Exiges, a bentley GT, and much more. I drove a 914 Roadster this weekend, and had a lot of fun doing so. Not many times I could be on the track with such nice cars, but anyways the biggest shocker of this weekend was the SL65. People were astonished at how brutally fast it was. Down the front straight away, which is about .5-.6 miles out of a FAST last turn, it would do approx. 148 MPH. This was much faster than all of the other cars, and only a tad faster than the Carrera GT, which I believe pulled low-mid 140's. We didnt drive the SL65 extremely hard, but we managed to pull a 1:28.0. This was about 0.7 seconds quicker than the Stradales. I will try to get some pics of the event, I didnt bring a camera, but if I can find some on the net, it will be posted."
That would depend on the track. The Ferrari will be considerably quicker in transitions and tight turns because of its stiffer suspension and much lighter weight. The SL65 will dominate long straights, and has enough grip to do well in fast corners.
I believe the CGT will be slightly quicker in the straights if driven expertly, but it's easy to get a little lazy with shifts (especially if you're concentrating on driving) and there's not much acceleration difference between the two.
Sounds like a fun track day!
I am close to the SL65 Did you get yours at Sticker? I can buy one in Cali fro $10K over it is black. What are your thoughts. If I order one it will take a year but will get at sticker.
.
Treynor, what tires are you using, or were using on the 600? I put a set of BFG G-Force drag radials on the CL600, but couldn't get it faster than 11.8 due to wheelspin (about 100 feet out of the hole as the boost really came in).
I wish Nitto made a tire, or that BFG would do a CompT/A Drag Radial. I'm pretty underwhelmed with the G-Force version.

Everything I've seen from Treynor still implied he had to manage his torque or leave ESP on, which isn't a solution.
I didn't know how to kick into "dyno mode", so my burnouts where still limited by ESP, but not sure how much difference that made.
