I have been lurking here for a while and now have the R230 itch that I need to scratch ... if anyone has or knows of someone that has a nicely modified SL55 or a clean somewhat low mile SL65 please let me know. For the rigt car it doesnt matter where in the country it is, I'll have it picked up.

Welcome! Please post a photo of the SL when it arrives.
You'd have to be suicidal to try and maintain a 16 year old ABC system. I think most of the buyers paying too much for 230 SL's have little knowledge of the ABC system. By now, every rubber ABC hose is rock hard and just waiting to burst, and believe me, they do! The rubber diaphragms in the accumulators are shot, and the seals on the struts are also ready to go at any moment. No thanks!
For those of us who fastidiously maintain our cars with the records to back it up, there’s little to fear about the ABC system.
Funny, there was a lot of mis-information about the BMW850i I owned and I was able to maintain/drive for about 25 years without major issues.
That being said I did a cost/benefit analysis on my 2004 ABC system (when my 2nd leak/failure occurred ~104,000 miles) and gutted it for a coil-over with sway bars and am extremely pleased with the results and peace-of-mind.
I just bought a C8 Corvette, and my wife wants me to "thin the herd" so I may sell my gorgeous SL55 for the right price, one of the best-looking SL's I've ever seen. Built on-site by Eurocharged with Black Diamond wheels custom made for the car, carbon fiber goodies, with more HP than the SL65 - it's a MONSTER and gets compliments every time I drive it and ZERO problems. Congrats! I'm glad I didn't sell mine. Drove it today and forgot how friggin awesome it is! People taking pics, etc. There are 2 SLs for sale locally (which is rare) and mine makes them look like ponies next to a stallion! HA! Enjoy my friend!
