Staggered wheel setup options on Black Series bodied SL63

Absolutely love the styling of the Black Series but honestly not a fan of the engine, the ride quality, or the lack of the convertible option - basic gripes that everyone has. That then also means I am not really a fan of the SL56 or the M275. I am going to buy a fully optioned R230 SL63 and toss a high-quality Black Series body kit on it, sans the badges. Also not a fan of the OEM Black Series wheels and wanted to go with something else (not sure what actually fits!)

I read online that the Black Series was using a staggered setup of 9.5x19 and 11.5/20.

I know next to nothing about wheels (very limited interest, at best)

Would the following work or be smart/good on a R230 SL63 setup with the Black Series body (to accommodate the larger width wheels) - https://bbs-usa.com/road_wheels/whee...s.cfm?wheel=48

BBS CHR-131 9.5x19 in the front and BBS CHR-137 11.5x20 in the rear, In theory that is the same staggered setup as the Black Series. Just a casual $3,500 *facepalm

Irrespective of cost, is this a stupid idea? Unsure what width people typically run on their rears for R230. I will be doing S1 ECU tune and have no interest in donuts. Rear grip via width seems a smarter route.

What staggered setup, if any, are any of you running on your R230?

You need to see what the area is after you get the kit on it. You should be able to figure out the sizes with any of the wheel mfg like hre or any others on the web. Dont try to plan it out until you get the car finished.

Nothing like choosing wheels before you have either the car or a body kit on the car you don’t have. Not too many of these cars with the body kits on them.

You need to “toss” on the body kit and measure the wheel size and offset to purchase wheels. The facepalm $3500 wheels for this project may be under budget, as these more than likely will be one off wheels.

cdk4219 - Would you lay the foundation of a house and 'figure it out" as you go along? Having a good sense of what is possible goes a long way. Never said I committed to buying any wheels prior to the purchase of the vehicle. Not sure why planning is a foreign concept to you. Planning is easy when you take the time. Purchase car. Purchase body kit. "Toss on" the kit and take measurements. Confirm wheel sizing and pull the trigger on the purchase. Your passive aggressive comments are not needed.

okbarnett - thanks for the advice. Will plan to work with BBS or HRE reps once the kit is installed.

There is absolutely no planning you can do to guess what size and offset wheels you need for an aftermarket body kit you don’t have for a car yiu don’t own, get the car, “toss” on the body kit and measure the diameter, width and offset you need. You don’t even have the foundation planned. Or know what the width of the house is.

Passive aggressive or not, you are just guessing because you have no dimensions at all to work from.

Here’s my SL55 with BBS CHR2 20*9.5 fronts and 20*10.5 rear with 265/30/20 and 295/30/20.
specs below as well, they seem to fit perfectly and fill the wheel wells just right.

When you are picking wheels and tires, you always pick the tire you want first. Then the wheel. Because its the tire that is going to be in the fender. When you pick the tire size, then you figure the wheel that it can be put on. You may pick a 13x21 " wheel and the wheel will fit with no issues, but then you find out that no tire made for that wheel will go in the fender.

My current idea is the Pilot Sport Cup 2 265/35-20 on front and 325/30-20. Those rears are too wide for the stock fender. Finding a GOOD QUALITY body kit has been very challenging. Most are crappy Chinese fiberglass.

Irrespective of body kit, wondering if a 19x20 staggered setup improves or hinders the ride quality

If I scrap everything then I would go with 19s and call it a day

okbarnett - Since you are on this thread and are clearly an R230 expert (past posts) - any guess as to how much a shop would charge to replace fuel injectors? Will likely only buy an R230 with a good engine serial number that does not have the head bolt issue. THANKS

Believe me, the best kits are crappy. You will have alot of hrs adjusting and massaging to get them right. Generally, the only wheels that work on a r230 front are 19, Dont make more trouble for yourself. I had 19 and 20 on 2 r230s and they are fine.
I dont know about the plugs. You will have to call around
