50k service. Time for upgrades?
New to the forum and immediately looking for advice lol… I’ve been an unregistered lurker for a while and know you all to be super knowledgeable so really appreciate any help or insights!
I have a 2005 SL55 AMG that I’ve had since new, getting close to 50k miles and I want her to feel as close to new and improved as possible!
For those with R230 AMGs, what did you have done when you hit 50k? What would you forego in terms of service and opt for an upgrade/replacement instead?
I was hoping to have elements of the P30 performance package installed and was looking into if any “official” AMG updates/upgrades to the TCU in particular.
I’m not looking for a track demon per se and I’d like to keep it to $5k or thereabouts but I’m open to all suggestions! Thank you all
TL;DR: 2005 SL55 AMG 50k service. What to have done, what to upgrade. Thank you!!

Hello, If you're looking for a genuine upgrade, I don't really think that's an option... However, for a TCU upgrade I will be using MK Ultra tune after I've installed the long tubes ($250-300). Wavetrac or quafie ($1000) LSD would be your next bet if you're happy with the power your SL makes. You can do quite a lot with $5k but again it will all be aftermarket however all of these brands have excellent quality and great reputation.

Thank you for the reply! That's helpful to know; I feel like I would have to be the one to guide the dealership and technicians so the information is most appreciated!
TCU wise, I was looking at VRPSpeed and MK Ultra. It looks to be significantly more expensive on VRPSpeed though not sure if there's any differencfe between the two...
Dumb question... what are the long tubes? Lol

You're welcome, I'm sure others will chime in with their suggestions etc. I will say, any reputable shop would be able to install the LSD for you and the Quaifie/Wavetrac are better than the standard P30 LSD. TCU wise, I have friends with their 55's who love the MK Ultra, I didn't know VRP offered a TCU tune. Long tube headers, it's probably one of the most expensive but best performance upgrades, MBH long tube headers, certainly not cheap but they are a work of art and a guaranteed 40-50 extra wheel horsepower over stock.

Yes, as Abe mentioned LTH are expensive but worth it. My experience with MBH is very positive on my 08 SL55, love the sound and definitely "wakes" up the car, especially at full throttle. I had my primary cats removed but all else on the exhaust was left in place. ZERO drone this way.
Will need to get a tune and you should add a smaller SC pulley (I did a 77mm) at the same time as more compression is the sure way to enhancing performance.
All 3 together will get youmore than 100 hp and 100 lb ft of torque. Now that's something you'll really notice.

No CEL's with a proper tune, can leave the primary cat's in place as well if your state does emissions testing. In FL it's not an issue.
