Does the SL500 brake recall affect us?

See text taken from the SL500 post:

I just received my recall notice on the SL Sensotronic Brake Control. It's Safety Recall #2004 050014. The notice indicates that dealers have a software upgrade that corrects the problem. The problem is identified as "in certain instances the pump motor may run out of permissible tolerances, thereby triggering the hydralic backup function mode". Sounds to me like the "2 hour" software upgrade must increase the permissible tolerance. It certainly does not indicate a pump replacement.

For those interested, my SL500 was manufactured in the 3rd week of February, 2004 and delivered to me at the end of March. It presently has 1900 miles on it and is in storage until next April.

So much for no American recall of this vehicle.

I just spoke to my MBZ service advisor who told me he'd gone ahead and done the SBC software upgrade the last time he had my car. (Talk about a good S/A!) Point is, I never noticed a difference and the car seems to be behaving normally. I hope the concerns of post-upgrade abnormalities are either imagined or unwarranted. Good luck to all!

SL SBC recall campaign

The SBC recall consists of a software update for an issue that has only occurred in a handful of instances in euro taxis and the like. The failure only occurs in cars that are operated for 24 hours a day for long periods of time. This caused the SBC module to overheat, causing it to shut down. It is not an issue that has been reported in the U.S. If the car is put away for the winter, I wouldn't sweat it until it was time for service.

I had my 2004 SL55 SBC recall completed (2) days ago. I honestly see no change in pedal feel (linearity, effort or otherwise) or anything. Funny thing is that coming from the 2004 loaner C240 for a day, the SL55 brakes comparatively felt nice immediately in normal commute driving. As SBC technology advances to it's next future generations/iterations, electronic braking with it's artificial simulation may fully replace the standard hydraulic brakes that we experience with other high-end sports/GT cars today. Eventually, we may not miss them?

Another satisfied recalled customer

Had the recall mods done today. No problems, no detectable difference in brake feel or performance.

Had recall mods done today. I hear less clicking of the brakes than before. Like it better.
