Treynor, dyno numbers?

So, what were the numbers? How much HP? I hope that you are satisfied...

The initial dyno session did not go well. It's not clear what happened - the car ran rich and was down on power, the right rear brake activated and overheated during the run, and the "check engine" light illuminated at redline. It could have been a problem with the ECU, the car, or the dyno itself - we don't know yet. Kleemann is having a look at the results and is going to propose a path forward shortly.

The in-car acceleration tests did not match the dyno results. The results I got were within a few percent of stock, and the differences might be attributable to weather or fuel octane.

Stay tuned for more results.

Ben do Kleemann/renntech offer a warranty to cover the engine and transmission blowing up after you purchase any of their ECU products? How long is it, can you ask them to extend it?

Renntech is the only company I know that will cover non-modified parts of the drivetrain when they do engine and/or transmission work. They match the factory warranty for no extra cost.

Great company.

Kleemann warrants the parts for around a year, but they do not warrant any non-modified parts. That means if a supercharger blows your tranny, then you get to pay for a tranny because mercedes sure isn't going to pay up.

An update - it's not clear why the Kleemann ECU failed to provide measureable performance gains on my SL65, although it may be due to gasoline octane here in NorCal (91) or cold temps. The car DID feel faster initially, although that might just be the infamously inaccurate butt-dyno Regardless, I was not able to measure any performance gains over stock in actual testing, either on the dyno or in timed acceleration runs.

Sooo... the Kleemann programming goes out and the RENNtech programming goes in next week. As is my wont, I'll let you guys know how it works out as soon as I have the ECUs back and some test data to report.

Ben

Treynor,

Why is your ECU going back to RennTech and not Kleemann? I thought all your mods were from Kleemann?

An update - the "check engine" light was the result of a malfunction in the emissions system (the purge valve wiring was faulty from the factory) unrelated to the Kleemann ECU. MB fixed it, and the car now pulls cleanly up to 140... on a remote test track, of course

Do you still have the Kleemann ECU in your car, or do you have the Renntech? Any new date for dyno?

Does the aftermarket ECU disable all the adjustable settings in the car - for example, putting the vehicle in "Dyno Mode" so traction control/ESP doesn't freak out?

I saw a guy accidentally dyno with his ebrake on in his brand new 03 Mustang Mach1. It wasn't a pretty site - hope your rotars are ok...

The car behaves just the same with the ECU as it did stock - I put it into dyno mode before beginning the run and it went with nary a hitch.

543 RWHP, 726 RWTQ SAE. 555 RWHP / 742 RWTQ uncorrected. Uncontrolled wheelspin in 2nd gear -- from a 50 MPH roll -- with ESP off. Gad

The dyno pulls were done in 3rd and 4th. The 2nd gear wheelspin is on the street
