Hi SL guys...lowly E55 guy here with great story.
Okay, buddy of mine swears by this story.
He has a friend in LA that buys Benz's on auction and sells for profit...also collects. Long story short, he got a killer deal on 2 SL55's and was able to buy them at cost so Benz would not lose out on their investment. He has a buyer in the Nevada area and invited my buddy to fly down and drive the cars up to Nevada just to have some fun. He tells my buddy who had never driven an SL "now these babies fly so WATCH YOUR SPEED"
Well my buddy is driving along "and he is glueing his eyes to the road scared to death of wrecking it"...he starts to get comfy and cranks up the tunes and drives....then an hour later...lights in the mirror. He doesn't even check the speedo and pulls over immediately. Cops walks up..."do you have any idea how fast you were going sir!!!..." Buddy "well I know I was going a little over the limit" then tells cop the transport story.... Cop says " I clocked you at 127mph...do you have any clue as to how much trouble you are in....HOWEVER, I'll make a deal with you"
Cop takes my buddy back to the cruiser and tells him "okay, when you see me coming in YOUR car, hit this trigger and DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING ELSE"
Buddy is thinking well, if it will get me outta jail or SEVERE fine (don't laugh..127 in a 70 is usually reckless driving). Cop takes car down the road and disappears..now imagine my buddy sitting in a cruiser with his hand on the radar gun thinking....wow this is friggin weird.
He starts to see the Xenons come over the horizon and hears the whine coming...as he gets close enough, he nails the trigger......147mph.
Car screams by...slows and turns around. Cop comes back with HUGE grin on his face "thanks so much, I have been trying to break the 130mph barrier for years with these pieces of S()&*t (referring to cruiser) but none of the guys can do it. I just wanted to see what it was like....what a car...it actually sat down and smoothed out after 130..." Cop wants to look at the motor etc...then says "well go ahead and head on your way..JUST SLOW THE F DOWN....another officer probably won't be so nice..have a good day"
Buddy drives off seeing officer still smiling in rear view mirror.
He's never been much of a BS'er....and swears it is a true story.

And your E55 is hardly lowly... IMHO it's the best sedan on the planet.

Great story. I hope if I get pulled over doing those kinds of speeds, I'm half as lucky. Got a 136 in my 500 three weeks ago (smooth) but got scared and coasted it out. Shame, because the road was clear and I had a lot left. One of my life's goals is go 200 someday. Won't be happening in my SL (governor/not enough power anyway), but I have a lot of time yet

I reach 145 here in a highway and feels so good but that was a one shot because you always respect the speed and doing that so often you lost respect to the speed.

Wow, I love those kinds of stories man. I only wish the highway Patrol coppers in Oz were that cool. I've only heard of one story from a friend once with similarities to that here...

the cops in Vegas and the desert seem to be a lot less strict than city cops. I guess the risk of killing someone out in the middle of nowhere is less.
Question...was he talking about breaking 130 in his CAR or breaking 130 on the radar gun? Did he have a bet with some other cop friends of his that he could catch someone by the radar?
