Tele-aid and Audio Software Upgrade Bulletin
Anyone get in the mail a service bulletin for Tele-aid software upgrade? I got one today and went to my dealer. They told me that my '05 55 is also due for an audio software upgrade for which I never got a letter.
Anyway, supposed to take an hour to do but what really ticked me off at the dealer was that they don't do these upgrades during Saturdays! So, now, they're asking me to dropoff my car the night before and they will give me a loaner. And get this, they told me that the loaner may or may not be a benz. WTF! My Lexus dealer has always provided Lexus loaners. My benz dealer, Ray Catena, is telling me that it can be an Enterprise rent-a-car. I told them that they should treat their customers better by providing them benz loaner cars. And that is especially true if you buy a $100k++ car from them! I had a long 'talk' with my salesguy and told him that he better make sure I get a benz loaner on Monday night or else he can expect not to make another sale from me. From my perspective, it's inconvenient enough to take your car in for 'unscheduled' maintenance such as this stupid recalls and service bulletins and then they add insult to injury by giving you a non-benz loaner. You'd expect that they would make the quality of these cars topnotch considering they're expensive!

Carlos, it's service bulletin 2005 010003. That's for the Tele-aid software upgrade. I don't have a scanner so I can't post the letter.
Do any of your dealers do the upgrades on weekends? I think my dealer is just being cheap and would rather not pay a service guy to do it on weekends. I hate leaving my car at the dealer for service!

To put it bluntly...you have a sh*tty dealer.
While I have a lowly SL500 - I always get an MB loaner.
When my '01 E430 needs service I get an MB loaner.
Even when I had my '88560SL I got an MB loaner.
At my dealer the policy is you give us an MB, we give you an
MB. They have C, M and E loaners. Generally you get to choose
which model you like...there are even a few M500's to choose from...

I brought my car to Ray Catena some months ago to have my taillights changed to the SL 55 ones (black stipe). They mistakenly left my keys in someone elses car and I had to wait 2+ hours after the car was finished to get my keys back. Is what really disappointed me was that they did not offer anything as consulation. In the past my Pontiac dealer had given me free oil changes for much more minor inconveniences. On the bright side, they did get me my car at $500 over invoice.
That's a shame about the loner car. Ray Catena Mercedes is the 2nd largest dealer in the nation. For those of you who don't know, I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a nicer looking/luxurious car dealer and service center in the nation. Both are a sight to see whether you are interested in buying a car or not. The place is unbelievable. However, they have to back all that up by rewarding custumers for inconveniences and by issuing Mercedes Benzs as loner cars for Pete sake.

Fletcher Jones in Newport gives me a loaner MB for my 89 420SEL.
Even one of the worst dealerships I've dealt with, MB Laguna Niguel, gives loaner MBs.
Heck, a really small shop called Star Motors near MBLN gave me a loaner .. 560SEC ... pretty fun actually.
