Actual Rear Wheel HP Numbers???

My buddy did a Kleeman upgrade on his SL55, and they dyno'd the car before and after, and the numbers didn't look right. They had a baseline (stock) of 376 hp (which I thought was extremely low...) and an after mods (software, pulley, K&N, and headers) of 452 rwhp. The max difference was 80 rwhp which was impressive, but I would of thought the scale should of been higher. We were not able to get the car in "dyno mode," so we simply switched the ESP off (not sure if that is a factor). Anyone have any experience w/ this, or am I just thinking these things should make more power than they do...

I don't own an SL55 but from what I've heard and read, 493HP being stock on your friends car the equation is -22% for drive line loss to = rear wheel #'s
so your buddy's car is a little on the low side quite negligible if I'm doing the math correctly it should be unmodfied power 493hp -22% = 385hp before mods so he's very close. The ESP could be the defining factor....

I thought 17% was for automatics? 15% is for efficient manuals right?

I don't know for sure but I've allways heard and read it was 20%-22% drive line loss for automatics, it would definitely explain his #'s if I'm right......

Did you smell the brakes cooking? I can't believe that ESP was not preventing you from getting the power down.

On my E55 that I tried to dyno the brakes were the problem before we were able to disable ESP. I know Treynor had huge problems with his SL65 as well.

Just switching off the ESP on the dash is typically not enough. 376 seems low for a stock SL55.

I spoke w/ him regarding his dyno, after I had expressed my concern on the low #'s. He mentioned is dyno was always a little low. We compared it to a run he had done on another SL55 w/ the same upgrades and it showed the same #'s on top (very close graphs). He was also not able to get that car in dyno mode... He mentioned re =-dynoing the car after it took a few days to learn. And if we can figure out how to get it in dyno mode.
