2013 Bi Turbo 63 Startup rattle
Hi Guys,

I'm over here in the UK and just got into a 2013 SL63 5.5 after my highly modified 911, I've had a few 63's in the past being an ML and CLK but the 6.3 version and this new engine is far better.
When I start from cold and after long periods of being parked, it seems to rattle for 5 odd seconds.. i cant put my finger on what it is or is it controllers etc
Any ideas or do others have similar. All help most grateful.

Porsche guy who drives SL63 w/ perf pkg AND perf suspension
may be a pulley or bearing in that component

My 2013 did same thing was pulley first time. Second time did similar but sounded like coming from back. Only did it cold like yours and was that told exhaust hardware in back was bad and also fixed under warranty.

Something about a check valve on the timing chains.

Cheers all.... I've been told by my dealer that its a combination of relays, pumps and the alike on startup..... all normal....

Just to be sure... I'd get a second opinion, whether a different dealer or a "quality" private repair shop that specializes in MB/AMG.

Did you show the video to your dealer? Seems like Mercedes has parts to cure this problem. Sounds like your dealer is not aware of this problem.

I would say it is the timing chain noise due to the hydraulic tension bolt weeping oil after extended periods of inactivity.
