New SL ordered
Been looking at a new SL since my 2009 SL600 even though it has very low mileage is now 9 years old. Yesterday I placed the order with my $1,000 for a 2018 SL65. A couple of things, the 2019 ordering guide is out, I looked through it on the dealer's computer. The 2019's are identical to the 2018's with some very minor detail item updates. There are no SL65's available to be ordered or apparently planned for 2019 production, hence my order for a 2018. It seems to be now or never for the SL65. The SL65 is completely missing from the 2019 D.O.G. I will provide more details on what I ordered after the dealer confirms the order. They seemed surprised they had to wait for an allocation slot, said it could be 3 weeks to get one.

Congrats!!
Yup the SL65 will no longer be available starting 2019. The V12 is going to be almost impossible to get anymore. You will indeed have a rare bird. Just for that reason alone I'm second guessing myself not buying one instead of the 63. Congrats and enjoy the heck out of it. Be sure and post some pics when it arrives.

I was back at the dealer’s yesterday for a service item. The status of the order is it is with AMG GMBH. The current order process for SL65’s (and S65’s) is before the order is confirmed the AMG team verifies inventory and assemblers time availability to supply the AMG built pieces. Then with a confirmed date from AMG the order can be accepted. I am told it is taking 3 week for that process, we placed the order one week ago.

Not sure what you are referring to. The SL65 has been discontinued, I missed the cutoff with my 3/7 order. The dealer still thinks he can get me one that is in the pipeline by trading with another dealer, we will see.

To bring this story to a happy conclusion a new SL65 followed me home last night. Polar white, Designo Platinum, Bamboo trim. Some pictures below.

You won't see one in this "style". If the SL does come to production and I'm pretty sure it will, it is going to be a 4 seater and a rag top as well. To me, not a true SL but that's what they're going to call it. It will essentially be the replacement for the S-Coupe.

She's a beauty. The best of luck with it. There will not be anymore 12 cylinder Benzes with perhaps the exception of the Maybach. So you really have one of the last series of 12 cylinder cars. Definitely unique and a "keeper". Happy motoring!!

I really enjoy this new SL. It is greatly improved from my 2009 V12. The exhaust sounds on full throttle upshifts in S+ are entertaining as well as the backfires when lifting off the throttle. At least as good as the new E63S.
My wifes E63S is Designo Cardinal Red with Beige interior so we did not want 2 cars the same color. I sure it will look fantastic.
