SL65 Black Series-Not For Export???
I'm seeing e-bay ads for SL65s that are making quite a point of stating that the buyer cannot export the car. What's with that? Did anybody who has taken delivery have to sign anything of which I am unaware?

I have had to sign this doc for every AMG I have bought. They are trying to protect the lower prices we pay vs other markets. The term is for one year.

I've bought AMG cars in the past that had no such requirement. And, I have a 65BS arriving at the end of next week that makes no mention of it in the contract. Since I 'm planning on exporting the car back into the Euro market, I'm wondering if my dealer will try to stop me. I guess we'll soon see!

When you sign the contract at your dealer, there is a form to be signed by you stating that you will not export the car within one year.

Well, I haven't signed any thing like that. I guess they will try to strong arm me when I take delivery. Should be interesting, given the fact that I won't be signing anything that says I can't export the car.

E 63S Wagon Renntech, E55 Renntech, SL65, SL 55 030, ML, bunch of old ones--they come, they go...
Then it's my guess that...
you won't be taking delivery, unless the dealer has such a bad relationship with MBUSA that they 1) don't care and 2) they are going to make so much money on you that the chargeback will be OK. These agreements have been found to be enforcable. If they don't get it from you, good on you, but they're not playing smart, or by MBUSA's rules.

My dealer told me that if I plan to export the car to let them know and I would have to pay a premium that was equal to the fee that they had to pay.
Did you just buy the car to flip?

Bought the car (silver #157278) to keep or resell, depending on the market value of the car when it arrived. However, this particular car was supposed to be delivered in the first release group of 50 cars. A problem occured with all of the first cars that caused my car to be sent back to the factory for the fix, rather than letting it come into the VPC for the fix (as occured with 43 others). So, I've lost more than 6 weeks and now must export it to find a profit. I don't think my delivering dealer really cares what I do with the car. Once again, we'll see next week.

No MB sold in the USA is allowed to be exported. If the dealerships suspects you will they should not sell you the car. They do this to prevent people playing the game of currency exchanges and avoiding duty charges.
If it gets exported and MB finds out, the dealership selling the car gets billed back for the (warranty and various other items as well) on the vehicle and they also get in trouble with MBUSA. Its a very big topic given the current global climate.
Its nothing special to AMG its the same for all Mercedes Vehicles.

One of the finance guys at a MBZ/Maybach said they got hit with a $75k fine when one of their customers exported a 62, among other fees incurred.
They do not want their new cars exported to other markets due to price difference etc...

This is going to be interesting...
I sell cars at a MB dealer on Long Island, NY. I must say I can't imagine how its good business sense for a dealer to allow anyone to export a brand new car. Now I can tell you from experience once the car is a year old we let 'em rip and the customer is free to export to the destination of choice.
Maybe if the car was bought at one dealer, then traded in at another. The second dealer wouldn't receive a penalty for the export. Now I hope the original poster of this thread isn't getting a "used" car. I can't imagine a used one even being available, but I've seen crazy things.
