Nice, but it must get pretty hot to hold when left parked under the sun!

shift knob
Hi,
I am looking at replacing my shift knob with something like yours. I found a very different mechanism under the shift boot and was wondering if you have any suggestions. I have attached a picture of the mechanism. Thanks Roberto

First of all, sorry for my poor english,
to pull out the knob,
first you have to pull out the leather skirt: put your hand inside and pull out, it should come witout major problems,
after you have to turn the bottom part of the knob under the leather. After that just pull out the knob, it comes out.
this post can help you:

For the chromed base, if you have a pre-facelift, use my part number (A 170 267 02 88), but if you have an SLK facelift version please check the part number, not sure is the same dimension, because the hole where the knob is, should be bigger in the newer version.
My advise is only to change the knob, unfortunately I couldn't do on my old SLK, so I decided to build also the knob skirt.
To build the base, I cutted and glued 4 piece of wood, (taken the measure with one calibre, sorry, don't remember at the moment... :-)
I sanded the corner in order to make them rounded and sanded also the profile of the wood rectangle because it was a little bigger that the inside of the chromed base.
To cut the wood, use a saw and an accessory that make 45° angles, you can find it in a "do it yourself shop"...
To fix all together (chromed base + leather skirt + wood rectangle), I used 4 screws, but before I made the holes in the chromed base and in the wood rectangle with an electric drill.
To fix all the base (wood rectangle + chromed base) at the car, I didn't totally screw in the 4 screws, so the make also the purpose to keep the chromed base firm to the center console when you drive.
For the knob skirt, I tailored an example on the wood rectangle with a piece of cloth; on this model I cutted the leather and sewed. After that I put this leather skirt between the wood rectangle and the chromed base, as you can see in the pics.

in this pic you can't see the 4 screws.

I this pics I still had to buy them, but this is the moment to make the hole with an electric drill and screw in the screws: all the base would be now fixed.
