SLK/R170: How can i convince my friend to buy SLK instead of a BMW Z3
What i request from you is to share your ideas , opinions about this comparison to help me to show him the ""right way"".
Thank you for your interest.
(Different convincing methods other than preparing a list are also accepted :p )

Fit and finish on the SLK is far better then on the Z-3.
Look for an older Z-3, if you find one check out the paint on the front end, the chipping will be far worse then on an SLK.
I found the soft top on the Z3 was radiating heat in the summer. My SLK feels nice and cosy inside with the a/c on, on a hot summer day.
Z3 is more of a pure-breed sports car where you can kill yourself with careless and untrained driving skills. SLK is a more tamed (please don't get me wrong, my SLK32 is a LOT faster than my M Roadster) and puts comfort and safety Job # 1 above all.
You can make mistakes in a Z3 but it's your technique to save yourself from an accident that pleases you.
For the longest time (as far as I know, until now), Z3 drivers have pride themselves over SLK drivers knowing that any kids who just passed their driving test can drive an SLK but it takes a real driver to explore the potentials (and potential death traps) of a BMW Z3.
And Bruce mentioned the Cowl Shake, YES, that's VERY apparent and I count that as part of the pure-breed sports roadster trend.
The new Z4 would be a much tamed car I've heard but Chris Bangle has been my sworn enemy since he headed the BMW design team, so I won't even touch the new Z4 with a 10-foot pole.
Isnt the Z3 going to be replaced by another model in the BMW line up?
I think the biggest reason to get an SLK over a Z3 is the styling. I really don't like the Z3's "clown shoe" look, and it looks even goofier with the top up.
i never heard it called a clown shoe before but now that i look at it it does indeed look just like clown shoes! lol
i knew there was always something about the z3 that i just found ugly, but i could never articulate it! thanx for giving me a voice...

So i didn't need a brainwashing, just prepared a list and gave him to read it.He saw that SLK is more safe and elegant but
he had still question marks in his mind.
And he read those two words ""clown shoes""""
What a shortcut!!! Thank you !!HAHAHAH
Now at least he doesn't want to buy a Z3.
I saw him reading magazines about MG roadstar , i better find
a suitable adjective for that car too..
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
On a personal note, I like the look of the new Z4; I love it's ***, but the snout is a little too Audi for my tastes. However, after owning a coupe-convertible SLK, I doubt I'll touch a ragtop for a while. I've got my eye on the R171 and will put my order in for an AMG as soon as possible.
Speaking of BMW - the shame - I was in NYC this weekend and saw a very rare M8. You see a few 8 series around city centers, but rarely an M version. Still my favorite BMW.
I always wanted to ask why didn't they produce 8 series much smaller like 3 series. At least they could sell more.So a fast toy for old boys produced in a less number compared to other series and sold not much in the world market.
(Also they could produce Z3 more wider with a better rear, make up is still not satisfactory)
Thats why M5 is always more popular compared to 8 series.
Now i am a MB fan not because i own one , i had BMW 3.20
coupe and 3.20 convertible between 93 - 98 and blew up
the coupes engine , also had traction problems with 3.20
convertible which has a jelly chasis.
MB is a rock , you get what you pay for.
for 8 series

this is supposed to be a MB forum LOL

I currently own a 1996 Z3 1.9 and a SLK230....
Z3: very cheap interior, loads of rattles, plastic rear window, manual top, WAY under powered (1.9), being replaced by the Z4.
I have a red 1 for sell, cheap if he is interested.....
