Angry Ignition / spark plug wires

Someone please enlighten me. I've searched this and other forums for information regarding ignition wires. To which I see nothing. I'd like to replace them. When I look for them online I only see 2 variations: A 2 cable German (OEM) set and a 4 cable Beru (OEM) set. Am I missing something?!? Who in their right mind would want to only replace the #1 & #3 ignition wires? Anyway...who/what is Beru? Am I stuck going to the dealer for such a simple item? It seems like all the online parts stores get their parts from the same places.

Thanks for any info.

Kevin

On the 4-cylinder engine there are two ignition coils which each fire two spark plugs. The coil attaches directly to one plug, and a high-voltage wire runs from the coil to the 2nd plug. You only need two high-voltage wires.

Why do you want to replace them?

OK, that makes more sense.

The car has 84K miles. I bought it with 74K. I've never replaced them and I don't know if the previous owner(s) have either. I guess it's just preventative maintenance. Is there someway to determine if I even need to?

Thanks!

You could inspect them for cracks and/or use a tester at an auto store perhaps. They are not scheduled maintenance item. I'm on 83K and I'm not replacing mine.

Thanks DickB...any idea what the ohm value should be on these? That's easy enough for me to check in the garage.

not stock.
If you want to replace, you could consider a wire and spark upgrade.

I did it on my 320 and made a very nice difference..... Magnacor wires and IRIDIUM IK16 plugs...

His wallet was lighter, so the car had less mass to haul around. So it went .000001% faster.

Back on topic: Beru wires are considered by many to be superior to Bosch.

actually we monitered it with my friends software and there was a reduce in throttle input by 7%... not to mention that the noticable "rough idle" on 320s has significantly reduced..... AND, I did save alot of money, and my red wired give a "motorsport" look to my engine bay... and if you wanna measure by "but dyno"...I can say that the car DOES pull harder to redline than before..... dosnt "die" right before the red line like before.

a s s wipe.
