Arrow Finally They Now Have Clear Headlights For R170 Benz New Improved Look !!!!!!!!!

So they just released these projectors headlights out now. It will make the car look like a brand new Benz with this updated look. Price may be hefty but make your car stand out.

Yellow is...ummm...an acquired taste.

I have the headlights and they're great. No need to spend $$$ for the "xenon" units -- these work well with halogen bulbs...

WOW! They look 100 times better than the stock ones. That's one of the main reasons I bought my CF over the SLK, the stock headlights are just so bla. I might have to go and pick me up an 04 SLK tomorrow. Do they have clear foglights as well?

All that aren't real xenon gas bulbs are halogen. The one's you're referring to are probably the high wattage painted ones right?

No. There are true xenon HID kits available on ebay. The bulbs fit in the H4 socket. Low beams only. How well they work is subject to speculation.

There are also "bi-xenon" true HID kits that are supposed to have high and low beams. How these work is a mystery to me.

As I've said, I think the aftermarket halogen clear headlights cast a better beam pattern than the factory HID's. This praise does NOT come lightly...

bi-xenons work with a mirror and are factory in bmw's. There aren't any true xenon h4 replacements there are ballast and bulb combo's but they definately aren't direct replacements for the bulb.

The new style uses only one headlight bulb with the low and the high beam filiments in it instead of 2 separate bulbs as in the original unit. You have to rewire the adaptor socket so that both filiments don't come on at the same time and burn out of melt the socket.

Agreed, E-Klasse, I would jump on board in a heart beat. The clear look they have now resembles the Nissan Sentra headlights with that silver semicircle ring behind the glass; don't know why but that just sticks in my mind and I can't get away from it. But, I am sure in a few years some other options will come up as our cars (R170) become classics...

I think that it is bad to go from 2 H7 bulbs down to 1 H4 dual filiment bulb as is the case in this new light. They could have done much better in function and design.

This set cost $3000 because they were hand made...

They are the insides of the R171 lights with a one piece lense and headlight body of the R170.

E-Klasse, those are sold on ebay.de, I believe. I found a similar post on benzworld.org with exact pics. They have the right idea but I am waiting till I find the right one, or I sell my car (which I probably won't because I am going to exceed 155k miles on that baby). I am already at 105k now, 50k more to go - so in another 4yrs you think, with the distance I drive...we'll see about that.

I have seen them on ebay.de but have heard that the time to ship is long and you run the risk of not geting them at all. There needs to be a seller here in the US. I have asked all of the ebay sellers but so far they say that they can't get them.

Many , many on ebay now days (r170 projectors etc)

Very easy and straight forward to fit.

Remove indicator, (press tag to the side at rear of ind and pull assy out (see handbook)

Undo screw next to grill.
Undo screw at top of light on inner guard lip.
Remove screw in void where ind assy was.
Replace last screw with ball screw provided.
Manouvre new light into aperture,
Clip onto ball socket. (grease it first may help to pop on)
Align top mount over guard lip and replace screw.
Replace side screw.
Plug original loom into light rectangular socket.
(if pre 2000 slk adaptor looms req to convert from early round plug to later rect plug)

If you have prob see the Projector posts on
http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r170-slk-class/
Some markets (USA) have slightly diff side light config.

Also ensure you get left or right hand drive configuration for where you live.

Like bazzle said. The good thing is that you do not have to remove the front bumper.
