I think that the new Z4 looks like a cross between Euro-Ford and Audi TT, in a twisted way. Very un-BMW-like. I like the 7-series better than this one. On the other hand, I've never liked the Z3, either.

like it, except that round side turn signal crap. If you seen it in person, that turn signal cover is crappy made.

I will definitely wait for the 2004 SLK with F1 technology.

I have attached a pic of the prototype.

SLK is going to be all new for 04 or 05...can't remember which...

RIGHT NOW anyway...I like the Z4 better than the SLK...unless you're talking about an SLK32!!

The Z4...the shape is one that you either love or hate. Can't say it impresses me much...some of the SLKs I see around are staring to look a bit dated as well...now the SLK 32 AMG is another matter - its just something about that little AMG badge that gets me all excited! :p

I agree. The side marker is kinda hokey looking. Like it should be on a Modded FOCUS or something. Overall though, I do like the car. It really surprised me how big it is when you stand next to it. I don't know if it's the actual size or just its 'presence' , but it's much different than an SLK.

Z4 vs the shoe

The somewhat bizarre Z4 styling is nevertheless a lot better than that of the Z3, known as "The Shoe" for its striking resemblance to an old stinky gym sneaker.

I think most BMWs are more or less ugly, and have been for some time. Chris Bangle's designs, while not a lot better than the earler ones, at least have some originality to them...

you sure he was trying though?

the Z4 3.0 is suppose to be quicker than the 330Ci in manual or auto form.

i think it was a 2.5.... he was trying... at first he didn't see me... i didn't want to race... but then i guess he saw me and he started to chase me/ tailgate.... he finally broke into the other lane where i was waiting at a red light and we both gunned it at green.... i couldn't tell if he was a young driver or a old guy... very dark... i burned him though.... i knew he was trying because he kept trying to pass me after i claimed victory but i wouldn't let him....

Stinky shoe...

I like the stinky shoe. I think the Z3 was a great roadster. The Motorsport version of course. I would pick an MZ3 over and AMG SLK. I just liked the way it all worked together. Might one of the only cars from recent production that I enjoyed looking at from every angle. C32 is close though.

I can't figure out what I think of the new SLK. I like it, but don't know if I am in love with it. I think the current one only shows it's age by the headlights.

I cannot stand the Z4 or the 7 series BMW. I fear that if MB follows too closely in BMW's outrageous path, I might be looking for another brand.

I don't like the nose of the Z4, but the rest looks pretty good. It will be interesting to see what aftermarket noses appear.

As for the new 32, I will wait and see what the finished product actually looks like. So far I am not impressed, and I do not like the angle on the sides.

The Z4 is a somewhat larger than the Z3 was:

Z4 dimensions - length 161.1"/width 70.1"/height 50.1"/wheelbase 98.2"

Z3 dimensions - length 158.5"/width 68.5"/height 50.9"/wheelbase 96.3"

Although, for some reason when parked next to each other, the Z4 looks a lot bigger (must be the way the lines flow on the car, I think the body of the Z3 is a little "flatter" which probably contributes to its smaller appearance).

The SLK is a little smaller than both:

SLK dimensions - length 157.9"/width 67.5"/height 50.4"/wheelbase 94.5"

Cheers, BT

the Z4 looks a LOT bigger next to the Z3 probably because its longer and flatter hood.

MB SLK 200 Kompressor , BMW Z4
Z4 crap

Basely it has a similar design & radical lines with Ford Focus. (and new 7 series )
For me , Its absolutely crappy , i dont care how much luxurious or powerful it is.
I am not against innovative designing but that plain look cannot cope with the absurd details (signals , front grill etc )It is absolutely state ofart ...
When you see a new car , sometimes it looks uglier than the previous serie but this is something different.

It looks as if it is forced to be different , no harmony , no aesthetics..I think its another odd serie after Mz3coupe , 8.50, new 7s....

This is my personal opinion , no offense , no Z4

:p

I don't care for the Z4 styling. In alot of ways, it's very much like the Z3. It's styled to make it look more sleak than it really is. The design uses several "steps" to fool the eye into thinking the height of the fender is lower than it really is.

I think the Z3 was more true to the roadster ideals, but it had alot of drawbacks that the Z4 fixes.

I couldn't bring myself to buy a Z3 because of the styling, there's no way I could ever get a Z4, even though it's probably better in every way than the Z3.

The Z4 is like someone with a huge nose.. the hood is way too out of proportion. It seems they are forcing some 7-series elements there, the kidney, the headlights.. just don't fit there.

The only car I like from BMW so far is the 330CI convertible, it looks even better than the M3.

I would take an Audi TT quattro over the Z4. But still, I like my SLK the best, it's dated but it's still very classy.

It's what's on the inside that counts.

Unless you stand around looking at your car all day you'll spend more time looking at the inside then the out, I rest my case, the inside of the Z4 belongs in a Pontiac.

the interior of the Z4 has better fit and finish than the SLK, sorry. The trims inside are real aluminum, unlike the SLK.
