AMG sport package

I'm in the market for a 2001 SLK 230 but am having trouble finding one with the sport package. Does anybody know if it is possible to find all the necessary parts and basically convert a normal SLK into the sport version. Would the cost be reasonable? Has anybody done this before? Thanks alot.

suggestion...

i would keep shopping. if you are going to spend the money to get an slk , get what you want. patience. its not worth putting it all that work on a normal slk. search autotrader and ebay. you'll find some.

You can certainly get the Sport kit from AMG dealers. try clairparts.com ; performanceproducts.com ... and check out the sponsors.

There are a whole bunch of after market tuner kits also available like lorinser and expressions etc.

If you find a good deal on a car, I say get it and then put in the kit yourself. You will need to include the cost of painting the kit but from what I hear, they can be installed by yourself. The bumpers for the front and rear and full replacements and the side skirts just mount on to the existing ones. I have not personally done it myself.

If I am not mistaken, it will probably cost you around $3k installed.

I think I'm going to just keep looking around. I remembered about all the interior differences which would be impossible to mess with. I don't want to be spending money after I buy it to make it what I originally wanted

The only thing ///AMG about the Sport package is the wheels, the rest of it is MB parts, the Sport package on the SLK230 and SLK320 is not the same treatment as the SLK32.

I was always under the impression that the Sport was the exact same thing as AMG body kits most of the time! Slap in the face vraa! Thanks NP!

'02 SLK32 AMG
It's alot easier to find a '99 SLK230 with sport package than an '01. The popularity of the sport package decreased when the '01 models came out because the '01 had body-colored skirts/aprons, unlike the '98-'00 models.

You can get the AMG parts from many different sources. autoclass.net and nrauto.com have good prices.

Personally, I'd suggest you keep looking. The big problem is that it would cost you close to $5000 to buy genuine AMG parts and have them installed and painted, that's alot of money when you consider the sport package on an '01 cost only $4000 when it was new and adds maybe $1000 to the retail price of a used car.

Plus you could get an aftermarket kit(like a Wald) and have a much more unique car.

SLK 320 (2002 Model)
In 2002 MB introduced a new SP1 (Sport Package) wich converts SLK 230 and 320, in the same look of SLK32 (same side squirts, front and rear bumpers) At least in Europe.

I'm not sure if it only works for 2002 an newer models or for older models too.

The only diference are the rims. (Even in some countries they include the small wing above the truc and the double cromed AMG pipe tail in the exausth)

But anyway you don't need to buy the complete AMG SP1 and can allways buy separate parts and the original rims, What I mean is you can convert your SLK 230 or 320 in a totally looking SLK 32 (at least in the body parts) if you want. But I think it will cost you 6K USD or even more.
