99 slk 230, 01 beetle 1.8t
Replacing the Alternator
Does Anyone have a link on how to replace alternator on a slk 230. My battery is new and scangauge II is reporting any where from 10 to 11.4 max voltage.

The battery has to be 14,6A when engine running...
Normally you have to release the belt tensioner...
And than just remove the alternator...
Alternator are repairable...
MB in Paris was charging 800,- euros to change it...
A non MB service station asked 500,- euros for the same job...
I remove it myself and ask an electrian to repaire it...
Done for 35,- euros...

I took my car to autozone and they tested the alternator and they said only the voltage regulator is bad.

The voltage regulator is a normal wear part. You'll see why as soon as you remove your old one. I posted a DIY/write up at one of my websites. At my local MB dealer, regulators are about $25.

both of my local mb dealers want 208 dollars for that part!!!
