Thumbs up Might Be Selling....

I am considering selling my SLK320 6 SPeed and getting the new SLK in its stead. Any idea what i'd get for the 2001 Black / Black model?

Thanks!

Unfortunately, you're probably going to cry when you get a serious offer.

According to kbb.com, a 2001 SLK320 6spd in excellent condition with 32,000 miles on the odo is worth around $31,000 private party sale or $28,000 trade in.

I recently sold my '02 SLK32 and it was painful. The sticker on my car was $58k and after 2 yrs, the trade in was only $35k!

Good luck with the new car. I really like the new SLK55.

I am still trying to decide if it is worth going in for a first year model or not. Experience has taught me to wait till MY06 for the gremlins to be worked out of the R171.

Stealership said they are "bracing" themselves for the amount of trades anticipated with everyone trying to get into the new model. My salesman said the R170 especially 98-01 will be sold for a song. In the Tampa Bay area we are already seeing the price of them come down - I recently saw a 99 SLK in excellent condition with 23,000 miles being sold for les than $19,000.

Salesman thinks what will probably bring sanity to the entire trade thing will be how long of a wait for the new model interested customers will have to endure.

Slk 230 & CLK500
I have a 2003 SLK 230 6 speed which is mint at 3700 miles. Dealer would only give me $27,000 on a trade while kbb is $31,850. Couldn't do it for that, too much of a loss. Wonder why the bottom has fallen out of the prices.

I live in basically the same area & the best price I could get on a trade was $27000 for my 2003 SLK230 6 speed with 3700 miles & the car is mint. Could not part with it for that. Seems the bottom has fallen out of our prices. May sound crazy but was looking at a 2004 Mustang Cobra since it will be the last for a few years. My friend says just as well because I would be downgrading from my SLK to the Cobra.

The bottom falls out of many models when a new design is forthcoming. The Stealerships will be hard pressed to get rid of all of those trade in's, AND they will have to move those new models. Couple that with being under siege for not having enough of th new models to appease everyone.

I say go with a private buyer; everyone knows when you trade in a vehicle you are really "giving it away".

Well traded it in & got $27,500. Most said that the reason so low was the 6 speed in my SLK230. My friend new a wholesaler at the auctions & spoke with him & he said I would be hard pressed to get $27,000. I wass going to sell privately but I would have to sell at $29,700 just to cover the tax saved so I traded it in. I liked my SLK230 & the quality was better then my Mach 1 but except for the roof feature the Mach 1 is much more fun to drive. Who knows might be back next year with the new SLK.
