They are kinda girly looking, but people have said that about my SL600. I just smile and say that it's my wife's car. Bottom line, if you love it, then buy it and tell the naysayers to STFU.

I bought a 2005 SLK back in January, was considering the 2005 Corvette prior to purchasing the SLK, I didn't buy the Vette since the salespeople were terrible, I was impressed by the vette since it has a look of power but after I checked out the SLK, I forgot about the Vette, I feel like the Corvette looks very cheap when compared to the SLK, I have AMG package and the SLK I looked at for the first time had the AMG package as well, don't get me wrong, the SLK looks good without the AMG package but the AMG package makes the car look more complete and meaner. I don't know what is it with this girly issue, there are different kinds of drivers, if you want to look like a guy that's going to rip someone's head off with their bare hands then don't get the SLK. I feel the Corvette would have been a bad look for me since I don't have the corvette look. It all depends on a persons personality and likes. I don't want to get anyone upset and this is why I don't want to get into an issue about the Corvette driver but the SLK is not girly. Its classy, Just about everyone I showed the SLK and told I was considering the Corvette, had told me I made a good move since the SLK is a classier car. I feel that the BMW Z, Mazda Miata, Porsche Boxter, Honda S2000, Older SLK are all built on the same concept, to be a ROADSTER, now of course I feel the 2005 SLK is a much more aggressive and powerful looking roadster, but believe it or not most of the drivers I've seen drive those roadsters I mentioned above were men and look more secure then the men driving H2 Hummers.

Yes, it is, but not as much as the 170. The 171 55 is the least "chick car" of them all...

the r171 is the furthest thing from being a "girly" car. check out the specs, have a look at the ponies, torque and the gear ratios. the lines on the new design are fantastic for a roadster. the f1 front slant nose is outstanding, and on and on and on....
there is nothing girly obout this car, my wife had the r170 (280sl), 2002. due to our chlid she ended up driving my denali and i wound up with the r170. now, in most automotive circles this is considered to a "chick" car. let me tell you i had a great time driving around in "her" car! that is what made me get the r171 55 (slk '55).
buy your white slk, tint the side windows, and change out your wheels to 19's, the car will fantastic in white! imo you don't even need to add the amg kit. good luck!

The only thing "girly" about the SLK is how many women admire it. I have had fantastic comments made about my car by some really attractive women. I get oohs and aahs from teenagers to 75 year olds. It's a great car. "GET NEW FRIENDS".

I don't know about that. You see an awful lot of chicks driving the new SLK350 so it is heading in the direction of being a chick car. I think it will always be a chick car because they like a small car and the fancy roof.

slk is a girly car*. so i'm getting one** to attract the ladies.

don't listen to what others think. if you are sure you are a man, their opinions shouldn't matter.

*just kidding. it is absolutely not.

Overall good list besides #2 (better suited for a "Teenage Boys" top 10 list)...right under the STI...

As for the SLK being girly...In stock form (i.e. w/o the AMG body kit)..yes it is...

I'm a girl and I have the 55. However, everybody seems to ask me who's car it is or make comments about the car to the nearest guy.

I was at a meeting this weekend and one of our members, an attractive woman in her 50's, was admiring my car, so were many other people. She said that she liked the new SLK much more than the previous one because "it's much more masculine". That's only one person's opinion but she was definitely a "looker". I like the car and I that's what counts.

If it is what you want.. buy it!
Girly car was not a consideration for me, didn't care only cared that IT IS MINE !

Lot of women on Harleys, don't hear any noise of Harleys being girly (well, one time for a passionate pink one)....

Life it too short to worry what everone thinks. Besides, the way this car drives they will be behind you !!

When i see guys in chick cars i think either A. They are Gay or B. They know nothing about cars and dont give a ****(& they are Virgins). I dont think that list is right. 6 Series convertable = Girly to me. Anything that is convertible means GIRLY to me, except the SL models.

Girly cars to me; BMW 3 Series Including CONVERTABLE M3 (not coupe), BMW Z, Mercedes C,SLK, & ML (Minus 55 Models), (#1) Jetta, Acura CL, Honda Accord, Lexus IS300, Convertable 350Z, Jeep Cherokee, Boxster, Miata, Toyota Echo, corolla, & Lotus Esprit.

But obviously most of these cars modified right give it a masculine feel and look to them.

I'm on this forum because I'm shopping. I'm considerign a 2005 vette, an SLK, or a CLK350. I have to tell you, it didn't cross my mind that the SLK suffered from girly car syndrome. Frankly, the car is too fast and too cool for that. I see as many girls driving vettes - an obviously guy car - so I don't think it really matters one way or the other. I think I'd attract plenty of stares in the SLK. The only "stylistic" question to my mind is does an average size guy look like a giant in a short car.

All I ever see driving R171 SLKs around here are mostly older guys. In fact, I don't think I've seen any women, young or old driving them here.

And for what it's worth, I'm a 27 year old guy, and I love every minute of it, and a day doesn't go by that someone doesn't comment on it at a stoplight, in a parking lot, or just plain yelling from their own car window.

my mom drives an SLK. For the money they cost I would get a W210 E55 or even a CLK55. But it sounds like you want a new car. Pick up an 01 Carrea or C4S if ya want a nice sports car, run around 35-40k depending on miles. Just buy an extending warrnty, only cost like 2k for a 3yr 36k. And you save huge money cuz the cars already took the hit.

Guys that say the SLK is a "girlie car" are just insecure with their own masculinity. Hopefully they won't buy one as it gives the rest of us a bad name.

I think that is also true for those who "have" to have the AMG styling for it to be an OK car. Ditto for those who are afraid of something called "airscarf"

i agree as i had an slk 230 and i know of a couple of other guys who had one well and we all loved it a nice run-about. the new 350 or the '55 have nothing "girly" about them. look at the changes in the new slk form top down including the performance.......
