Northbenz:
As I look at my customs plates hanging on my garage wall, I think you must be getting quite a collection...thanks for the posts and your past advice on Euro delivery...

Great minds decorate their garages alike

Your post prompted me to go down to the garage and take a look. Four are hanging and I have the most recent one waiting to mount. Somewhere lost in storage is the first plate (I think) which when found will bring the "collection" to an even half-dozen.

Driving without NAV in Europe?????

[SIZE=7]I know having Nav would be useful/handy to have while
driving in Europe, but would it be easy to follow directions
for the Standard Blackforest tour (going thru Germany 4days and Austria 1day only)

I will be taking the standard blackforest route designed
by MB. Do you think it can be done without frustration?

10 being difficult ----1 being easy
in terms of following directions, reading designated maps,
interpreting road signs, etc

Any feedback would be appreciated!!

Big SLK, having the Nav is extremely helpful, the nav wasn't 100% acurate but it is good enough, w/o it, we would really be lost. The only time we had problems is when we were heading to the schlosshotel in baden-baden, it told us to turn right into a clinic, all you have to do is ignore it and continue heading up the mountain to your destination. The other advice is to turn if off when heading to Hinterzarten, otherwise you will miss the cuckoo clocks and the twisty roads of the black forest. We missed it entirely. Do a search on Euro delivery, there are many good tips. The Nav was a life saver, just make sure you get all your destination programmed at the factory.

BTW, what model and color are you getting?

Thumbs up Maps still work

BigSLK, I drove my Euro delivery 10/1/04 - 10/13/04 and did not have Nav...made it fine without problems. Maps still work and if you use the Euro delivery Black forest rally route (from web site and MB brochure), I don't think you will have problems...

Main thing...ENJOY...

Thanks for your advice!

Thanks a bunch for your advice, I guess I will drive by handmap.
If I find the roads / signs confusing when I get there,
I will rent a GPS for 125$. Gotta budget. I will probly
kick myself in the head later.
Frugal SLK owner ....if there is such a thing.

I have on order '06 280 iridium/blk +amg,trim,heat,ent,comf.

Ynot, Motzkoman

I prefer the rear lip spoiler but that looks okay.

I found the NAV invaluable, but I was not doing the rally. I was meandering all over.

I would agree with that. Even though I don't use the Nav system very much here in the states, it's absence would have made a very expensive trip much less enjoyable. I would highly recommend the Nav system if:
1. You are planning on winging it (not following a fixed path.)
2. Do not speak the local language
3. Are married and want to stay that way.

Sorry for the delayed response...I am not big into spoilers at all, but that one looks finished well enough not to look tacky...I go without...
