Ordering new SLK, options questions

I am ordering an SLK and am deciding what options to get:

1-Engine: I think the 280 has enough power, I am coming from a Z4 3.0 sport, even tough the 350 has more power, the 280 may be more fun.

2-Sport Package:
Does the sport package in the SLK 280 and 350 have a lower suspension? How much lower than standard car? Can you tell visually? The only thing I really need from the sport package are the wheels and the lowered suspension, depending on how much is lowered. I may just buy wheels.

3-When you buy different MB wheels, do they give you credit for the ones on the car?

4-Is the Logic 7 stereo worth it? How is the regular stereo?

This is what I have so far:

SLK 280
Automatic
Jet Black on Black
Comfort Package
Heating Package

Evaluating:
sport package
entertainment with navi
trim package

If you are in doubt and can afford it, order as many options as you think you may want. Both major forums have continually had inquiries from people that want to add options after they get their cars. It's always a lot more expensive and complicated to add things later.

I agree with Duo-Art. Take your time and evaluate what you want and can afford. I feel the SLK280 is a tremendous bargain. Same car, less engine. I like NAV and Sirius radio, it's a must have for me. I personally would pass on trim package, and sports package and add the wheels you want. Again, take you time, weigh and decide. A SLK280 or SLK350 with NO options is still a fine vehicle. Good luck.

The premium package gives you the garage door opener and remote roof retraction. The 350 and 280 are built on the same block, so you don't save weight with 280. The Nav and CD changer is really a waste of money. After market solution like the Garmin 2730 is much better and you can change as technology improves. Command is a pre-requisite for the ipod kit and gives you the AUX port.

The MHI/UHI don't support many phones so I installed a Sony/Ericsson HCB-30 BT kit myself, posted here:

For most practical uses, the suspension choices makes very little difference. It may make a difference if you are a professional driver. Wider tires means lower contact pressure for the same weight, so it will be worst in the rain. Some finds the sports pasckage too harsh for daily drives over poorly paved streets and gone to the trouble of swaping back.

So any suspension and tire choices should be fine.

2006 SLK 280
Yeah - like the others say - go for as many options as you can get. I got my 280 with the comfort and heating packs (airscarf rocks!) and regretted not doing the entertainment and premium options.

I now can't do elegant IPOD integration without paying an arm and a leg (entertainment package would've fixed this), have audio that is ok, but nothing compared to a buddy's Audi with premium sound (entertainment package would've fixed this), and have a clunky garage opener that I have to reach for in the center console every time i reach home (premium package would've fixed this). Oh yeah, and not having a CD changer - means no MP3 CD's either .

*sigh*

Agree, go for the goodies. I didn't care for the Nav or CD portion but the remote operation, etc is worth it and for re-sell (I seem not too good at selling) the dodads are a hit.

I certainly wouldn't go for all the bells and whistles.

For best residuals (in the uk) the car needs to have:

7G Tronic
Metallic. (Iridium, Silver or Obsidian)
Black Leather or in the case of Iridium cream
Airscarf
Parktronic
Command/Nav (delete if you are short on wonga)

Anything else has a marginal residual value. Its a bit like buying an X5. Don't do it unless its silver or Black, Sport pack, Comms pack, Privacy Glass, Auto , Black leather and diesel, anything else is difficult to move on at a great price.

But you buy the "bells and whistles" for you, not for the next owner.

I wouldn't buy the car at all, if I was buying it for the next owner.

If the deal goes thru I shall have the car with me in one month, I am attaching a picture, is a 2005 with 6000 miles.
