SLK350 with 18" RIMS

Hey everybody,

Does anyone have the SLK 350 with 18" rims? I was hoping you guys could answer a few questions for me?

1. Are there any problems?
2. Does it scratch/rub against the car?
3. Did you have to lower the car?
4. How is the ride?
5. Is it staggard?
6. What exact size gets the best fit?

Thanks everybody, I really appriciate it.

As long as you get the right offset, I don't see there will be any scratch and rubbing problem, cuz SLK55 has stock 18". Depending if you have sport suspension or base suspension, I don't see lowering is a must with Sport.

I believe you can use 225/40-18 and 255/35-18 tires

I'd like to get the Brabus Monoblock VI and the Brabus kit. So I don't think the AMG sports package is worth it.

So you think that I will need to lower the SLK in order for the 18s to look right? I do not have the AMG Sports package? Does anyone have 18s on the SLK350 without the sports package and did not lower the car? If you do, I'd really appriciate it if you could post some pictures!

You shouldn't have any problems with any 18s. Many have gone with 19s, with 8 1/2" wide front and 9 1/2" rear with no problems. Lowering is a personal issue.

I'll post some pics this evening or in the morning. (2006 SLK 350, no AMG package, 18" AMG five spoke wheels, same as the AMG option, but 18", not lowered).

Lower it, you will not regret, looks sooooooo much better with it lowered, since you don't have the AMG kit, it's not going to be that low, ride will remain the same and the fender gap will be gone.

Assuming you never go over bumps, park on gravel or get near bumpers, or have potholes. In short if you only look at in your driveway or drive it on a track, that is a good idea.

Yeah, I think the might of Mercedes can design the optimum set up for most people. Lowering is really just a cosmetic preference.

I agree. I'm happy with the look with the 18" wheels. However, 19" wheels and lowered does provide a unique, aggressive look.

I haven't measured it yet but it looks about the same height as before, the 19"s I have raised the car a little and the springs just helped to get it back to original height, will confirm this weekend.

The wheels I have are the five spoke R171 AMG wheels from the Tire Rack. Staggered 18", 7 1/2" front with Michelin Pilot Sport 2 tires 225x40x18 and 18", 8 1/2" wide rear with 245x35x18. This is the same setup as the SLK55. Total cost to include shipping was $2975. If you can find wheels and tires you like at the Tire Rack, they're fantastic to deal with.

I'm thinking about 19"s, but I don't know if it's too much. Do any of you guys have 19"s on your SLK55? How is the ride? Hit any potholes?

Many ppl have purchased 19"s for the SLK55, here's a few off the top of my head.

dinko
dsb
danamg
zaint10

if you get the right offset, it should not be too much, the rear tucks in the fender when you hit a pothole, so there should be no damage.

I'm selling my SLK55 stock rims & tires at a pretty good rate in case you are interested. Good luck!
