SLK 350
Yes, 1 year old with 13,600 miles. It is my daily driver and a great car. When It hits 5 years old, it will become a weekend driver. I will move back to a luxury sadan as a daily driver. ( Mercedes S class or Lexus LS)

Thumbs up Love the SLK

I've had some history with the SLK before. My R170 SLK230 was totaled by a GMC Dinali SUV last year, so i went with an '04 CLK320. I loved the car, but it was no SLK...

The hands start shaking when that weather hits 60-70F... you all know what i'm talking about.

So i found myself the perfect car after searching all over the US. Traded in my CLK320 and went with a '05 SLK350

14500miles at signing
Drove it back to NJ from Ohio = 470 miles of pure bliss - Priceless!

First impression driving... Wow... No way... Am i dreaming... They got it all right!

The sport suspension is very tight on turns, no body roll, i couldn't even make her squeel. So then i put her into the dyno mode, still nothing, no slip going 0-60 and hitting a sharp turn at 55 in a parking lot. I am amazed.

15 months, 25,000 miles, 25,000 smiles. Wish I could have gotten the 2-tone black/red seats or even tried that cool blue interior (I haven't seen anyone on here have one). Some custom upholstery will fix that. Wonderful car. I'd buy another for my mom if I could. Stock ride is good for a Mercedes, and with upgraded rims/tires, suspension, and brake pads, can be a serious track car.

Great posting...but again really?

Hi,

It is fantastic to hear of so many merc people satisfied - clearly they are doing a much better job nowadays at last!

In relation to buying the SLK again - well to be honest no and that is nothing to do with the car as it is a nice car but i would hope to perhaps go UP the car scale as I always see the SLK as an entry car really so I would be hoping to go onto the SL or even an AM (depends which one i like) as my next car rather than buying the same again.

Just my thoughts.

gary 350, yes, I'm driving mine more lately. The main problem is there aren't many interesting roads in the Chicago area. Sometimes I feel like going for a ride but then I think where do I really want to go so I stay home.

Yup, we're happy. I'd consider another. The R171 is such a BEAUTIFUL, FUN, NEAT car. Happy that we made the right decision and got this one. No need to think about getting another, anytime soon. It will be interesting what minor changes are ahead before a major revision in five or six years. I'm happy with the SLK 350 and don't see a SLK55 in my future. Check with me tomorrow.

Duo I know how you feel its a great car but the roads around here suck, if its not nose to tail traffic (Cardiff got voted the worst city for congestion this week) then its the state of the roads pot holes etc, so you really have to drive a distance to get to the nice places but you have to drive through the rubbish first so like you I stay at home. I live a few hundred yards from the Bristol Channel so maybe a boat is the answer

gary - have a nice day.

Racking on miles...

HI,

Refering to a previous thread - I had my old SLK from new for 12 months and i put 55,000 miles on it - think i enjoyed driving it too much lol. Needless to say now i just bring it out when the sun is shining which in the UK u can imagine isn't that often - apart from nowadays which is a rare experience!

Also someone who didn't know what AM stood for! Whatever next! Never the case with VW i bet!

WOW, 55,000 miles in 12 months. That's got to be a record. Most 2005-2006 SLKs have LOW mileage. Mileage in the "teens" appears to be high from those I see for sale online.

I haven't been to Chicago in 10 years, but I seem to remember that Sheridan Road from Glencoe up to Lake Forest was a pretty nice drive. Around Highland Park, there used to be some curves.

Curves

Yes, Sheridan Road still has those wonderful curves. Unfortunately the area is patroled a lot more by the local police than it use to be.

I am pretty weird about cars and have always been really craving something new after two years with whatever my current toy is.

But I have been noticing with the SLK that there's not much out there that I'd rather have.

I sort of wish I had gotten the SLK55 AMG instead of the 350, but if I had I would have 200 points on my license by now, and/or be dead. I tend to use what my cars can do.

I love the look of the BMW M3, but they ride like a truck. The convertible costs a mint, and it's a convertible. I like the fact that the SLK is just like a real car with the top up, and yet the top goes down. It's like magic!

The retractable top thing could move me to another brand, but so far there's not much. Pontiac G3? Drove one, nearly had to be put down because of terminal boredom. VW EOS? Might be a nice third car. Volvo C70? I like Volvos, but that model has no room in back, and no horsepower.

BMW's new one? I'll be looking. I keep looking at BMW. The 335i might turn out cool, with 300 HP. I think the new V8 M3 will be off the charts in price. A retractable 300 HP BMW could get my attention, but they probably won't build that combination. I'd buy a high power all wheel drive one, but they won't do that either.

So, netting it all out, I'm surprisingly pleased with my SLK350. It did just what I thought it would do: it's not quite as much fun as my Z3s and Z4 with the top down, but it's ever so much better when the top needs to be up. It is less spirited than the Z's. Maybe I'm just getting old. In fact, that's a given.

Still crazy after all these years, though.

Shouldn't be a problem

It depends. If you're like me, most of the time you're driving alone anyway. As long as you have a second car with rear seats, it shouldn't be a problem.

I would definitely buy this car over and over again, 6 months and 3,000 miles later. Haven't had a problem yet, knock on wood.

Driving this car, I feel like a million bucks.

You're correct. I've said the same thing before. I've never had so much fun driving a car in my life.

I have to agree with you 100%, this is my first 2 seater, before I brought it, I thought it might be an issue, after owning it for over a year now, it has never been a problem. But then again I have an SUV for practical purposes.

Driving this car makes you feel and look a million bucks. It looks so much more then it actually is. I'm very happy with my SLK350.

SLK is most beutiful car especially with AMG trim. It's fast, comfortable, and reliable. I think it's perfect car for a woman who can sacrafice a bit in handling to much of comfort and style. Certainly I'd buy it again and again.

Reason is retractable hardtop is heavy, and would make it too hard for BMW to maintain their famous driving dynamics.
New 3 series have only retractable hardtop. I just got invitation from a dealer to order one. I'm still hesitating, because I want 2 sitter, so SLK is definitely better car for me.
