benz--man: Is your unit-- the one this guy sells on ebay-- the one made by Piecha? Did you have to do any wire cutting or splicing at all? If it is not the Piecha unit, is there some place that I can find the installation instructions before buying it? Thanks.

This is not the Piecha module but the installation is identical.
See my post #45 from the first page of this thread; you'll find these instructions very helpful.

On another forum, people are starting to report run down batteries and other problems which may relate to the unit.
regarding battery problems have a look at these pictures from a german slk board: http://www.mbslk.de/modules.php?op=m...rum=4&start=30

Post Taken Down?

Yesterday there was a post about a group purchase of one of the models of one touch roof controls from Germany. I was very interested, but now that post has been taken down.

Does anyone know why? Was it a fraud? Does anyone know the brand of the model that was the subject of that post, or what their website is?

I think the roof module (ebay) is causing the following issues in my car. Everything was fine sunday eve, monday when I started the car I oberved the following

1) Roof Malfunction - Visit Work shop Constant beeping
2) Lcd Malfunction (Oil Graphic) - Visit Workshop
3) Passenger side window rolls down ALL the way, after few hours the car has been locked and shutoff.
4) having problem pulling the roof down
5) Passenger side seat started moving itself while I was driving
6) Driver side seat moved itself, while the car was parked in the garage over night.

This just makes me laugh. I am taking the module out today and taking it to the workshop.

I bought one of these models some weeks ago, it is not working constantly, seem to be in a beta test phase but not ready for the market. i already sent it back.

we are working on a groupbuy for the mods4cars module, seems to be the most professional one at the moment, so far we can get it for under 225 euro net.

if there is anybody interested in joining the groupbuy, please send me a PM.

The piecha module is only $300 dollars now, I would get that one and not risk any problems to the car, IMHO.

piecha is not a developer, he "only" resells the kufatec modules which are draining your battery in weeks and are NOT up to date regarding the functions...maybe that's the reason for the fall in prices...otherwise they would not be able to sell them anymore...

you will get battery issues after not driving for 6-8 weeks (depends on which module you have installed). my battery went dead completely after 5,5 weeks, i had to buy a new one because it was deep unloaded.

but hey..maybe it was only bad luck, just ask your dealer about the power consumption, the mods4cars module takes under 1mA....

don't know what you are talking about, I had my slk garaged for 4 months during last winter, I did not shut off the roof module, it's working just fine. You sure it's the roof module and not something else?

The price reduction is due to competition from other's manufacturer's, piecha was the only option when I purchased mine, in my opinion.

Maybe not last winter, I've own my SLK for over a year and it just seems like I had it since I've owned the car , I only have 5000 miles on my car so I don't drive it much, go months w/o starting it up and it works fine. I actually have not drivin my SLK for nearly two weeks and it started up fine today, was out of town. I have not heard of such issue as I've been around this and other benz forums for a long time.

You might also note that the product sells for $299 in the US and ships from Kansas. If what you sent to me in a PM is correct, in the US the discount is off the US $ price, and presumably would still ship from Kansas. That takes a lot of the worry and hassle out of the purchase.

That's why I'm in.

Another concern that some people might have about this "group purchase" is that we would not be buying direct from the manufacturer, and that someone would somehow be consolidating our payments and making the purchase. (It was certainly a concern of mine.)

That is NOT the case, as oli_h explained in a PM to me:

"Payment is done directly with mods4cars on their website, you will receive a special code to get the rebate. you will receive the full 2 year warranty from mods4cars, are you in?"

I might be in, but are some people reporting a problem with the system draining the battery, or is there 2 differnet units that are being discussed on this thread. The other problem is I'm in Canada, does anybody know if there is any duty on this product.

the mods4cars smarttop module (which we want to order in the groupbuy) is the only module with a real standbymode, have a look at their website http://www.mods4cars.com they guarantee a power consumption of less than 1mA. all other modules on the market drain your battery with 30 (yes 30!!) or more mA !!
