SLK/R171: SLK best acceleration with 7G-Auto Transmission.
)Here's what I do:
I always start in 3rd gear, then I push 3/4 till rpm reach 3500, then I switch to 4th gear and push all the way till rpm reach 6000 and I switch to 5th gear..
I dunno, I somehow need to imrpove on my drag and I feel I do need some help on this rpm thing. hehehe
Any suggestion and ideas guys? for the best drag using auto transmission.
if you race from a stop:
ESP off, tranny in S mode and 1st gear selected.
press the brake w/ ur left foot and press the gas w/ ur right foot, get the rpms to about 1800-2200
when the light turns green let go of the brake and floor the gas simultaneously.
do not touch the tranny, it will shift by itself.

when you floor it and press the button it triggers the tranny to drop into the lowest gear possible, enabling the best acceleration
this is usually faster than using tiptronic unless you know your going to race and have some time to prepare
you can downshift using the tip
just tap it to the left a bunch of times and it will automatically downshift into the lowest gear, it will not downshift into too low a gear thus there is no way to damage your engine.
as you do this pay attention to the gears that engage and at what speed, you will get used to it and then will automatically know when and where to downshift for best performance or just to ride out the torque in 4th or 5th for example.
if you want the best performance do not upshift yourself, let the tranny do it, it will upshift automatically every time no matter what gear you have selected. other wise (if performance isnt the issue) you can upshift whenever and the computer will allow the highest gear w/o bogging the engine, again pay attention to speed and gear and you will get the hang of it.
good luck

You're gonna get the fastest drag times by putting it in S mode and stomping on the gas. You don't need to waste time messing with the tiptronic.

I will ignore your silly comments about Button. There is an old adage that you obviously forget.
"To finish first, first you have to finish" You'd do well to remember this.
P.S. Did you enjoy Buttons win on Sunday?
Alonso may be a world champion, but he was beaten hands down last weekend.
Kimi wants shooting, not only did he crash into somebody, but De la Rosa was faster than him anyway.
Jenson was a deserving winner, 14th place to first place. I wiped a tear from my eye
Oh shoot, I forgot about the part where you hold the brake and load the transmission a bit. Someone else mentioned it here. I think that's supposed to help in automatics since you can't just drop the clutch like in a manual. In any case, it's not good for the car so only do that at the drag strip.
