Many have inquired about an aftermarket Bluetooth kit for the Mercedes SLK (R171). Parrot Kits, manufacturers of aftermarket Bluetooth kits for most vehicles has released a kit for the SLK. It also works with the 2002-2007 C-Class, 2004 - 2007 CLK, 2002-2007 E-Class, 2005-2007 New Style ML, 2002-2007 SL, and 2002-2007 SLK. I installed it this weekend. I'm still learning the system. It's a completely "stealth" install. Check it out.

That is a serious pile of garbage. Not only is it not integrated with the car but it doesnt even work with the COMAND or the cluster. You may as well just wait for the Mercedes MHI Bluetooth and change your phone to suit.

Look at those evil connectors .......

Extremely negative comment from the guy who states "Modify your car and enjoy the benefits". The Parrot systems is better than no bluetooth at all. I agree, the best systems is a fully integrated factory system.

Why dont you imagine one of your legs on the top of your head. Not exactly what I call a mod worth doing.

The reason I think it is rubbish stems from the fact that it is using a DIY public domain CANbus controller which was published with diagrams, boards and PIC code about 3 years ago.

All Parrot did was take a $40 wiring harness and glue the DIY kit onto the end of it.

Look at the insane amount of wiring ..... seriously pathetic solution compared to a $20 earpiece or a Mercedes MHI solution.

I really dont buy into that "poor mans BT" given the cost of the car

Mod your car .... dont destroy it.

THIS IDENTICAL solution was published as a DIY on THIS forum 3 years ago. Now suddenly everyone wants to tell me it is a new product. I have the data files, diagrams and the code. Yet I went with the MB solution.

Hey, lighten up. The Parrot kit is a Bluetooth option that works, regardless how old the technology is. Other (better) solutions will evolve. I was just passing along the information that I had, and my installation. This installation was relatively simple and didn't destroy my car.

My friend bought a clip-on handsfree bluetooth mic-speaker that clips onto the sin visor. Works really well and costs $20. I was amazed at how simple it is and how cheap it is .... but then it made so much sense.

Why you cant use an earpiece .............

I wish it was possible. I don't have the pre-wiring for the phone system. Otherwise, that would have been my first choice. I assume, if you don't have the pre-wiring, it's not cost effective or possible to retrofit. Can anyone enlighten me on the possibilities?

Anyone installed this Parrot kit with 146 adapter on an Audio 20?
I have a 2005 SLK350 Launch Edition and am interested in the Parrot steering wheel module and 146 plug adapter. Already contacted Parrot but they have never had anyone install one on a non-HK 350? Anyone out there have some insight? I received some very slim instructions and a pdf of what the controls on the wheel will do with the Parrot 3000 and the steering wheel module installed.

Thanks in advance

I believe the non-HK install would be easier. All harnesses connect to the back of the radio. I had complete access to the back of the HK radio without removal. Take the panel below the glove box off, and you can reach behind the radio and remove the harness. Attach the Parrot Kit harness and the SW100C steering wheel controller and reinstall connector to the radio. Parrot Kits instructions are weak. Use what you can from my install. Good luck.

I am supposed to have the Parrot 3100 installed in my car friday, Feb. 2. If all goes well, I will have some good info to share. I am also researching the Dension Gateway 500 Ipod interface for the Audio 20. Any info on it would be greatly appreciated.

I did take my car in for installation. Unfortunately, the company sent me the wrong steering wheel harness. It not only worked for the Audio 20, but fried the Parrot. I sent it back and a new setup will be sent shortly. Will keep all informed as soon as new install is done.

3g Network
will this parrot kit allow a 3G phone to be connnected to the internal phone system of the SLK (ie steering wheel controls) or is it still only for 2G phone networks?

3G? Not sure. Check with Parrot.com, they're an international company out of France (I believe). They have a forum online that should address your question. Check the forum here: http://www.parrot.biz/forums/usa/viewforum.php?id=2

My Parrot kit work fine with G3 phone.
G3 is the protocol that connects phone to the cell provider and adaptor connects to the internal systems as steering multi functional controls and the audio system.
I will probably get an extra Parrot adaptor some times next week, and will post it @ Classifieds
