What do you think of this deal for a 280?

Was talking to someone today about an SLK and they mentioned they had a used 06 SLK280 with 20k miles blk/blk with premium 1 package. They said they'd sell it to me for 39k including TT&L. I thought about getting it just as a weekend car. What do you guys think? Good deal or hold off for something else?

Not sure. Sounds high. What else besides Premium 1 package? AirScarf, xenons? Mileage would be high for a 2005, especially high for a 2006. Plus it's winter time. Based on the information you provided, I wouldn't. For a few thousand more, you should be able to find a better equipped 2006 350 with less miles. Good luck!

Hmm. P1 is all it had. They also have a 05 launch edition SLK350 for the same price. Not sure if I care for the color though. 21k miles. Being in the Dallas area there isn't a lot to choose from like there is on the west coast unfortunately. Park Place Mercedes is the largest dealship we have, they have an 05 and 06 SLK 350 but they want 43k and 47k respectively without TT&L. One is red and the other blue. Yuck.

*edit 280 also had the 7 speed auto. Think that was it, he didn't have the spec sheet. If 39k is the out the door price then sale price is probably around 35.5-36k

SLK 350 MT AMG pkg
seems kind of high both price and mileage

Are you set on getting 280? You should test drive both 350 and 280 there's a difference, an 05 350 for the same price might be a lot more fun. Look for them in California, you probably will be able to get one for a much better price if you don't mind driving back. You'll probably find one you like just by spending a weekend in SoCal. Almost 40K on an 06 280 seems kinda of high especially when some dealers were offering 2k discounts on new 06s just recently.

2005 Launch Edition presents possible oil consumption issues. Either present or repaired. I'd pass on a 2005 for that reason. Continue to look, don't settle for less than what you want. I've been watching this eBay option for several weeks. The price has been reduced twice and the auction is ending today. Beautiful car, great price. It's local for you, go check it out.
If I could see this car in person and it was without ANY evidence of damage, I'd buy it TODAY.

You are correct. I've been reading some of the issues with the 05 350s. Best stick with the 06s. I'd consider a 55 if I would drive the car more, but I only plan on driving whatever I get on weekends and days when it's nice out. Besides I'm afraid if I got the SLK55 then I wouldn't drive the E55 anymore. I hear they're a wild ride. I've been poking around ebay and autotrader etc looking at prices. Nothing local that I could look at and my line of work does not afford me the opportunity to wander off to the far reaches of the country.

I'll probably pass on the 280, but can't say for sure as I haven't looked at it yet. I would today but I'm working from home with getting over a cold. It is 70 degrees out on the other hand and oh so tempting just to snag it and enjoy the good weather.

Thank you for the offer, your car certainly has lower miles but by the time I paid shipping, taxes, etc obtaining your car would be about 7k more than the one here. Remeber the 39k includes taxes, title, and liscense. Also the 280 here has comfort and convience package now known as P1 which I cannot do without.

How much in taxes on a used car in your state ? About 600 here .Tags 29.00 . Texas must be expensive. Also this is P1 with extras.

6.25% of sale price for tax if you buy from a car dealer. They have a new higher tax if you buy out of state that was enacted Oct 2006. The rest of the fees tacks on another 1k. They don't make it easy on you. You think vehicle tax is a lot then you should try Texas property tax.

But at least you get sunshine. It's 2F and snowing in Chicago today. Definitely not SLK weather. You also have some of the nicest people that I have met anywhere in the US. IMHO

Well, I have bad news. I went to check out the 280 and it was a rattle trap. So I didn't get it. On the way out however something caught my eye. A bright red SLK55 they got in the night before. 2005, 6k miles, loaded. It was listed at 56k, they sold it to me for 51k. I pick it up in the morning. It's going to be a long night....

Thanks. I can't wait to get it. I've always loved the SLK, in fact this will be my 3rd SLK, 1st with the new body. My previous ones were a 320 and a 32. People call it a girls car, whatever floats thier boat. It's a good thing I've been sick all week or I might have missed this and ended up with something else. And if I don't drive the E55 any more, then oh well. I'll just sell it and keep the one I really like.

It got dark on me so I couldn't get any good pictures. Here's one of her I took in the garage. Yes my garage is dirty, no I'm not going to clean it.

Maybe they'll get busy and have baby cabrio CLK 55s, though I fear the color would be hideous. Metalic orange?
