I personally don't like the looks of the boxster, so I would get the SLK.

If you ask me both are chick cars.
But I absolutely HATE the boxer. It's a loud, uncomfortable, piece of crap.

With the SLK you'll get a very well built, luxury car with all the aminities and not sacrifice anything (Especially if you get a more powerful one.

I think the 986 Boxster of 98-2003/4 looked way better than the 987 current stlye, heck wait a year and it will have a mild facelift too if your eager on the Porsche Boxster.

Interms of handling you know the verdict, the porsche is better around the track. The only thing I would do is to go out to both dealerships and have a sit in them and ask them for a test drive.

I not a fan of the Boxster. I personally like Porsche, their history and most of their products. Can't say I've ever seen a Boxster S. I'm just a BIG SLK fan.

Learned how to drive stick on my friend's (987? new style) Boxter S. It's a fun car and the new versions have bigger engines. However, for the price of my friend's Boxter S with no Navi (don't know what other options he had) he could have got a SLK350 pretty much loaded. I would have chosen the SLK, and, IMO with the AMG package, it looks pretty darn good.

Ask yourself: are you going to be needing the P-cars better handling? If not, def. go with the SLK.

I had a '99 Boxster for three years, overall I was very happy with the car. I did get tired of the loud engine noise that enters the cabin and thats still a quirk in the '07 though to a lesser degree. Also having a rag top requires some additional care and maintenance to prevent early breakdown of the fibers especially if your climate is hot and it will stay out in the sun alot; folding mechanics aside I imagine the hard top on the SLK will not require any further maintenance than that of a regular hard top. Since in the USA we get the SLK280 I did not have to weigh power as a factor and the street cost was within 2k so cost was not a real factor either.

I've only had my SLK some three weeks and got off too a rough start. Overall I'm loving the car and do not regret the purchase; only hope I can get the glove box issue resolved..mine suffers from a lever that pops loose often. Its something I can fix in less than a minute but its embarrasing none the less when it happens. I'm going to call MBUSA and ask them to order a new glove box be installed..the dealership I bought from has a very unresponsive attitude toward the issue in my opinion.

As far as being ribbed by friends and collegues about the SLK being a sissy car or the 987 only for folks that can't afford a 911..it'll be much worse on the Porsche side..been there

The Porsche is a great car, but like it has been said before, it's going to really only show its colors on the track. Personally, if I wanted a track car, I'd rather go for something more extreme like a Lotus Elise or an Ariel Atom.

The SLK provides me more happiness in everyday driving.

Due to the prices, I would go with an SLK350 over a base Boxster, simply because the Boxster will end up costing a lot more once you've added in all the extra options. The 350 in my opinion is a little more fun because the engine is quite a bit more powerful then then base 200. The 200 is a good cruiser, the 350 begins to give you a fair amount of sportivness as well, and if you want a manual, you can have one in either the 200 or the 350 which you won't have in the 55...

Without going over a long list... I gotta say the SLK is the choice I made and am very very pleased.
Now if we only had a good service dealer out here!
