2008 SLK 350 300hp?
Just saw it on the MBUSA.com and it says 300hp, is that true? I also checked all other 350 and they are all still 268hp. Does the new SLK have the newer engine?

yes it has been upgraded to 300 hp. it is not a newer engine but the torque has been raised? others more technical will chime in. and it is model yr 09 not an 08.

Well the E and CLK are heading into their last year so I can understand why they don't get the never version of the 3.5L V6, but the just facelifted ML didn't get it either. The big question is whether or not the 09 C350 will get the new engine.

SLK350 facelift
Hi Andy
I've had my UK spec 350 facelift for 2 weeks now. Check out the UK MB website SLK page which gives stats and specs (http://www2.mercedes-benz.co.uk/cont...html#chapter=1).
The engine is a development of last year's 350 but now had 305BHP @ 6500 revs (it's redlined at 7250 rpm). Torque is 360Nm @ 4900 rpm (not sure what that is in ft lbs). That gives 0 - 62mph in 5.4 secs. Anyway it feels more punchy that my previous 350 already, so looking forward to it being fully loosened up. The new Comand/sat nav and sound system is way better than the previous one too! Get one now!

The new SLK engine is totally different. One of the magazine articles I read said they completely ditched the dual runner intake manifold and went with a single manifold. In doing so there was actually a reduction in torque in the mid range (not much about 5-10 ft lbs) but in doing so they gained over 30 HP and increased the rev range to 7200. The old dual manifold simply could not flow enough air at high rpms, the new one is a superior design and enables a 7200rpm redline. In my opinion it is worth the small reduction in torque for the extra HP b/c the car has 7 speeds and honestly I think 1st & 2nd gear are too short in my 1st gen SLK350. I love my 350 but this new engine gave me a serious case of buyers remorse. I wish MB would create an "upgrade kit" that the older SLK owners could buy in order to uprate their engine but realistically that won't happen.
The 305HP version is a true sports car and honestly I'd take it even over the SLK55. Higher revving 6s are always more fun than lower revving V8s imho.

SLK 350
Seriously, I really like to have the 268HP and 305HP side by side and see how much the difference is. The horsepower is always the more the better.
However, I believe the SLK is also due for big change in 2010 or so. I will love to see what MB will do about this little sport car.
