I'm intrigued by what looks like a turn signal on the edge of the "bumper" band. Haven't seen that on any of the real R171 or pictures I have looked at so far...

Those turn signals in the impact strip are required by US regulations and will appear in all US cars. The pics you have been looking at are euro-spec cars which do not include those turn signals.

Better Fuel
Euro spec engines almost always have a higher HP rating (all other thinks being equal) mainly due to higher quality/octane ratings of their fuels. This allows the timing to be advanced more so than in NA.
