Lets not forget that the SLK 350 was equipped with a manual tranny, the DSG and SMG trannies shift much faster and are better suited for track use - I believe the SLK 350 would have had better lap times if it came with 7G-Tronic due to its performance advantage(3.6 secs faster than the manual transmission from 60-120km/hr)

If the car in this test was the manual (I couldn't see anything that said it was the manual by the way) it had a 60-120kph time of around 5 seconds (if you check the performance data in the test the SLK did 60-100 in 3 sec and 80-120 in 3.7 so 60-120 would be around the 5 second mark)...... the MB press release said the manual did 60-120 in 8.7 seconds so the data here would suggest that the test car in the article was actually the 7G.
If the test car WAS the manual and we believe that the 7G is 3.5 seconds quicker that would mean that the 60-120kph dash would only take 1.5 seconds...... the numbers just don't add up so something is wrong somewhere!

The SLK 350 in the test came with a manual, sechgang manual(six-speed manual):
You do have a point though, the test times show that the manual is as fast as the 7G's quoted times but the article clearly states that the test car has a manual tranny(BTW I scanned the article
). The 60-120km/hr times might be be a meaningless comparison but I don't think MB would release such times unless they had to prove that the auto offers better performance than the manual(even if its not as much as 3.6secs).
This is a quote from the official press release:
The SLK 350 can be ordered as an option with the world’s first seven-speed auto-matic transmission (fitted as standard in the SLK 55 AMG). The 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission is brimming with technical innovations which ensure more powerful acceleration, extra-fast mid-range sprints, lower fuel consumption and a higher level of shift comfort. In other words, the new V6 engine and the 7G-TRONIC transmission make the perfect couple when linked together in a Mercedes sports car
I'm confused
