For those who can't make it to Tampa, that demo will be at Crown Eurocars in St. Petersburg on August 13th.

Gave MB of Tampa a call and was told that the car will be there tomorrow, but will only be for "Training" use. I talked to Brian, and was told that he would take me in the back and show me the car, but I will not be able to test drive it.

I'll take a few pics for you all tomorrow!

I know it might be asking a lot, but could you assess the trunk space area for me?? If you play golf, maybe u could take a golf bag and see how it fits.. I know people on this board has provided me with some pictures on the trunk... but I think i need a picture with a golf bag inside... perhaps maybe two...

Pictures or the demo car will be nice!!! in every angle!! hahah
Here is So. California, we still have to wait until end of the month to get a demo.. according to my salesman...

demo in SoCal

If you're in SoCal you can see and drive it at the (free) driving event at Hollywood Park the weekend of the 13th-15th (August). Need to register, but they ought to have some slots still available.
best,
Dan

It's making the rounds of Central Florida

Saw the SLK350 in Tampa today at mid-day. The Tampa guys said it had just gotten in Friday morning, after being shown in Lakeland, and before that Orlando.

It is supposed to go to Naples next, then Ft Myers, then Sarasota, then be in St. Pete on the 13th!

I definitely will be at MB of Naples tomorrow to check it out. I wonder why they're sending it all the way down here, then back up to Ft. Myers, Sarasota, and St. Pete rather than just going from St. Pete down to Naples? Anyway, doesn't make a difference, I get to check it out tomorrow...thanks for the info.

What'd you think of it in person?

In pictures, it looked to me like a slightly restyled R170 with a big nose. But in person, the nose is fine, and the interior is completely different. I would describe my R170 as a "classic" car and the R171 as an "avant garde" car by comparison.

I agree completely, especially about the nose. It looks great in person. I had my doubts when seeing only photos.

The Scoop from Lokey Mercedes of Clearwater

We will have a new 2005 SLK350 silver here on Thursday, August 12 for a retail training and development class for the dealership. This vehicle will not be able to be test driven, but you may come and look at the car and sit in it and get a hands on of the future SLK350.

Please give me a call if you have any questions-727-374-2483

Thanks,
Matt Randolph

One thing I was amazed about the car was the headlights. The clear cover over the Xenon's was pounded on with the dealer's fist, and the material is literally un-touchable.

Xenons on Florida dealer demo???San Fran demos?

Those of you who saw the US Spec dealer demo there in Florida were you able to confirm that the lights were xenons? If so were they bi-xenons (both low and high beams), and further if so were they the cornering bi-xenons offered as part of the lighting package? It has been my understanding that no US Spec car will have the lighting package available until after production date of August 20, 2004. (Or is it possible that the dealer demo car making the rounds in Florida is not US Spec?) - Same question for those who participated in the Love Mercedes test drive in San Francisco last week-end.

It appeared not to have the lighting package.

They model shown had the standard Xenon's, not the Bi-Xenon package. This particular car pretty much only had the Premium package, from all I remember.

Hope this helps.

Well that is encouraging. Hopefullly the low beams are at least xenons. Anyone who gets to see one of these US spec demos next time - see if you can turn on the lights in a dark area and check if they give that unique blue tint that xenons give off. I assume these demos don't have a sticker listing all the specs which would tell us if they are xenon equipped.

To simplify that, they are Xenon's, just not Bi-Xenon.

Just to help clarify, unless you order the Bi-Xenon option the standard lights on the SLK350 are nicely packaged halogens. This is made clear in the training brochure Mercedes created for their dealers. They may look like Xenons, but they aren't.

Also, there seems to have been some confusion about whether ordered cars could have Bi- Xenons if built before 8/20/04. This is also not true. One person I know from Chicago's car has already been built and he ordered the Bi-Xenon option. Mercedes in Montvale, NJ., has also confirmed there is no delay in the Xenon option.

If you are ordering the SLK350 and you want Xenon headlights, you'd better cough up the $950 premium for the Bi-Xenon option. Otherwise, you're just getting pretty Halogen lights.

Cheers,
Rod

Ps: My ordered car has just gone to B1 status. It should be built in about 13 days!!
