SLK/R171: leak from breather on g tronic transmission r171 350 slk

Wrong, valve plate cracked across pressure regulating sensor, massive overpressure causing violent oil sprays withing casing hence leak. Substituted used valve plate - complete cure.
You gotta ask yourself how on earth did the valve plate crack?
How did I find it, looked up all the drawings I had of the transmission, only direct access to breather is a machined slot in top of casing. Checked bellhousing for cracks(visible from above), none apparent pulled valve plate etc magnifying glass and bingo there's the crack.
Popped in spare that I just had laying around and job's done.

This place is a joke.
Wow. I've removed hundreds of valve bodies, even dropped one or two, and never seen one crack. One possibility is a faulty installation where it wasn't sitting flush on the case and the screws were used to force it down. Good job finding the problem !
