Who's offering the lowest price?
So what’s the pricing and availability like so far. Are southern CA dealers offering any enticing discounts as compared the rest of the country? Also, I see that the SLK doesn’t qualify for the 7% ED discount.
BTW, found out that lisamariechico@yahoo.com offers the 3-year/100,000 mile MBUSA extended warranty on the SLK350 for $1790. Is this the average cost?

I don't know about So. California specifically but I haven't heard of any dealers in the U.S. discounting the price of the SLK350. Why should they when they can sell every car that they can get their hands on at full list price. Some dealers are even asking for over list price.

I doubt you'll get any deals for 6-8 months. It's the same for most new cars (BOxster, Mini, even the Z4- though the latter died down very quickly as BMWs numbers were less than expected). I wouldn't accept over MSRP (whcih some are trying - especially for the 55 AMG), but frankly I wouldn't be looking for a discount either till mid next year.

MSRP seems to be the norm quoted by various dealership Internet sales reps. Just thought there might have been an exception – you know a guy who knows a guy who… Thanks.

BMW 330ci, SLK350 on order
i think if you're planning to purchase the car in 2 years, you might be able to get maybe $500 at the most off MSRP, unless you have a very very good past relationship with the dealership. I ordered mine in early Sept. at MSRP. I was told by the salesperson that doing a markup is not allowed/illegal for the Mercedes Corporation, if they're being caught, they will be in trouble. But keep in mind that Launch Edition is the exception.

Mercedes has no rules against markup - they DO discourage it (both MBusa as we all Mercedes in Germany), but it's in no way illegal.
The only brand I know of that has this as a rule (i.e. if you see it you can call corporate and they DO disallow the dealership from doing it) is Porsche.
Now, I still think it's unethical, but hey.... I don't mind not getting any deals on a new car, but paying over MSRP...... I wouldn't do it, and never have (even when the Boxster was new, or the 996 came out).
