SLK/R171: European Delivery suspended for SLK350?
I just got back from getting mine 10/1 in Sindelfingen and dropping it off on 10/13 in paris. Prior to my leaving, my salesman had shared that the new European delivery list no longer had the SLK on it, possibly reinforcing what you heard. Glad I got mine...but I miss it now and can't wait for it to arrive on these shores... :p
Of course there is no more European Delivery orders, the launch edition came to U.S. and thats when they stop taking those orders becayse you can buy the car in the U.S. of A.
My dealership near me already sold about 3 luanch editions and 4 regular slk 350(not luanch edition). The first car they sold was on Sept. 1 or 2, 2004. So what is the point of the European delivery if they have them here? --- I know that some people want to have the packages they want. I order my SLK 350 the way I wanted it with color and packages. Thats called a special order, its like the european deilvery.European delivery means when the car comes out in Europe, they will sell it to you from there. But European delivery is not needed since U.S. dealerships can make the deals now.
I maybe the last one for SLK350 Euro delivery ;-)
Hope they don't change delay the order!
I'm afraid you don't understand the concept of European delivery. It's where you pick up your car in Germany, drive your own car during a European vacation, then drop off the car for shipment to the USA. For most models (not the SLK) you get a 7% discount on the price of the car, plus they waive the $720 delivery charge. The money you save will pay for most or all of your vacation, not to mention you save the cost of renting a car in Europe.
Now please get your facts straight before flaming other members of this forum. Your immaturity is becoming tiring to many of us on this forum who come for information and to exchange ideas.

I will definitely pull something together in the next few days...just catching up with lots of backed up work from almost 3 weeks out of the office. I have attached a picture of our two american tourister rollaboards in the trunk with a slim computer case in between; I posted earlier the info on these that I tested prior to leaving.
I put between 2883 Kilometers on the car in Europe (1792 miles). Now I can't wait for it to get here...
More later
They worked great! Here is my previous thread info about the suitcases copied in:
Trunk Space - Suitcase
------------------------------------------------------------------------
For those of you wondering about what suitcase DOES fit, I have spent the last couple of days with a few trips to my dealer in preparation for my European delivery 10/1/04...needless to say, I need to know what luggage to take for two weeks of driving around Germany and France. Here is the results:
> My Samsonite roll-aboard was about an inch and a half too long to fit pointed to the front and the trunk is not wide enough for two across if it is put left to right.
> I found an American Tourister roll-aboard that just barely fits in, so that two can be used side by side, leaving a little room for smaller things and some room on top under the roof slider. This suitcase is only $39.42 at our most common discount store (online or in the store) and comes in blue or red.
Here is the description from the web site:
"The model is a American Tourister Meridian IV Expandable 21-inch Upright Carry-On
American Touister travel gear is performance tested at fully loaded capacity, using stringent quality control standards. The Meridian IV upright carry-on bag has gone through rigorous tests of strength, durability and dependability. A plus for frequent travelers and vacationers: This bag expands up to 22 percent for greater capacity. 21-inch, blue color.
Made of durable 1200-denier polyester fabric in blue
Dimensions: 14"L x 7"W x 21"H
Expands up to 22 percent for added capacity
Push-button locking handle
Bottom-lift handle
In-line skate wheels
Sturdy steel frame with corner proctection
2 large front pockets, 1 interior mesh pocket
Removable add-a-bag strap
Interior cross-straps
*** I might add that to fit it I placed it with the wheels up and toward the front...just slid in snug fit.

I can relate; my favorite roll aboard was 1 1/2" too tall to fit pointed forward. At least the ones I found were relatively inexpensive and readily available at our nearest Walmart.
You're gonna love Europe in the SLK...
Mercedesfan has asked about my experience and I am putting together a summary with a link to an Ofoto album much like Northbenz did...I will post it this weekend (buried in catch up work right noe). You're gonna love the SLK in Germany...

Nice pics! thanks.
Went to the dealership today. The truck is really smaller, even smaller than I remembered. Definitely need new suitcases and some planning.
