155 MPH Lock?

just reached 155 mph last nite, but i felt it still had some room for accelleration, and actually the needle on the speedo was quite close to 160 mph, sorry didnt have chance to take a pic of it, kinda exciting, the first time reached this high speed..

Yeap, my C280 is governed at 130MPH and your AMG is at 155MPH, it will go a whole lot faster.

Its electronically limited.. You should have known about the AMG option of taking the limiter off..

Mercedes (and/or AMG) will not remove the speed limiter on U.S. cars.

By federal law ALL USA delivered vehicles must be DELIVERED into the USA electronically limited to 155mph.

However, after the vehicle has made it into the USA, the limiter may be removed.

It SUCKS, doesn't it? What difference does it make 20 to 25 more MPH, right? Give us a break!

There's more to it then just turning a switch......

I spoke to the Zone Rep. about eliminating the governer on my SLK. The problem is that the car doesn't have a big enough fuel pump to deliver the fuel flow required at sustained high speeds . After a very short period of time the engine goes lean and can burn up. With a bigger fuel pump the car is capable of around 175 or so MPH.

Anyway it is not like you can hold it there for long, there is not enough room to hold it at 170 for 1 minute on US highways, there's cars, trucks, curves and worst of all COPS!

OUCH! but you always run that risk at any speed, I do agree that at 155 mph your risk is a lot higher but that is all part of the excitement.

I have a smoker friend that read a lot about the consequences of smoking, he decided to quit reading. Same thing applies for speeding you just need to learn where when and how.
