Good Selection of Rims for SLK32?

what are some good rims for a SLK32? i like the AMG's because the lightweight, but i wanna change the look of it and maybe get some black rims (this is for my sister's car). I wanted to tell her to get HRE's but that will make the wheels heavier. So what are some suggestions you guys have? Thanks for all the help!

If you want lightweight, you can't beat the OZ Superlagerras or the OZ Crono Evolutions.

I'm using the Crono Evolutions on my SLK 32, and it shaves about 50lbs all around compared to stock SLK 32 wheels. Good for 2-3mph trap speed down the 1/4 mile (as compared to Kenny's SLK 32 on stock AMG wheels).

RENNtech wheels are lightweight...

They are forged and weigh about 19 lbs each (in 18x8.5 and 18x9.5). The stock wheels are 24 lbs (front) and 27 lbs (rear).

The rear RENNtech wheels weight slightly more being that they are wider. When I got these wheels and RENNtech springs my car actually rode smoother than stock.

For the record, Brabus wheels look great but they are known to be extremely heavy and dent rather easily.

For aggressive driving I would take a forged wheel but if you like the looks of the Brabus wheels (which look simply great) I would not hesitate to go for those. Either the Brabus V or the VI look great on all MB’s.

If you want a picture of the RENNtech wheels let me know. They are 10 spoke wheels with a polished lip and a silver center (very much like an AMG wheel but with ten spokes).

I think your info is a bit off. AMG wheels are not light at all. They are about 26-28lbs (17"). HRE wheels are forged, which means they are light and also why they are so expensive.

Yes, Brabus and Carlsson wheels are much heavier, but look a bit nicer too. I think Brabus Mono VI will look pretty good on a SLK32.

If you want light-weight and have a deep pocket, you may consider Carlsson 1/16 Ultra-light. What others have suggested (i.e. Renntech Monolite and OZ Superleggera) are also worth considering.

Do you really think that the whole difference in 2-3mph traps between cars can be attributed to the lighter wheels? I'm not doubting you, but I'd just expect something more along the lines of 1/2 to 1mph.

Not sure about SSR or Racing Hart, but there are definitely no Volk Racing wheels available in the 5x112 bolt pattern we need.

Sort of... we have 2 SLK 32's to test with, a 2002 and a 2003. The lightweight wheels cut ~50lbs of unsprung weight, which is about equivilant to 150lbs of "normal" sprung weight. This is where we get most of the gain. The 2003 is slightly faster stock because of the firmer shifts with the 2003 tranny software, so we get a little bit there too.

Just curious, where'd the extra 12lbs come from? I remember reading on a different post where you weighed everything and said the total savings was 38lbs. Did you change to a lighter set of summer tires or something? Because I remember you having snow tires on those new rims...

Later,

Marc

You can order from your dealer. See the info on this page. Part numbers are at the bottom.
