2005 SLK 55
Soon!

Not now ... but hopefully in about 1 year! For me, it's a tough choice between the 350 (272 HP) with the 6 speed manual or the SLK 55 (370 HP) with the 7 speed autobox ... but definately not silver!

So who is going to be the first to do a conversion?

Looks like you need a front bumper, headlights, rear bumper, taillights, skirts, and a good body shop and Vola! '05 conversion

I would love to see the cost on these parts!

I like it. Is that a photo that MB released or an artist's rendering? Are the specs released from MB anywhere online?

I wanna say rendering, the chassis seems like it twists for the camber on the rear wheels compared with the front.

I hope that Lorinser or Brabus or some company will offer a hood/fascia conversion to a traditional Mercedes look (just as they offered the F1, SLR-style conversion for the SL). That car could look exquisite with a classic M-B grille.

Wow,

I don't really know how the 7 speed will work? I know with the current AMG speedshift you can't kick down more than 2 gears. What if you are on 7th and want to catch somebody I would think you would want to be at least at 4 or maybe even 3 to kick some butt.

Also I wonder if the tuners will get a hold of it and drastically reduce 0-60 times. I am sure it is possible with the amount of gears available.

Anybody have any ideas?

well...I did a simulation with my PC using AMG information shifting at the red line 6,700 rpms:
http://www.mercedes-benz.com/omb/amg...ch_data_02.htm

this is the result :

1st gear 37 mph

2nd gear 57 mph

3rd gear 85 mph

4th gear 120 mph

5th gear 166 mph

6th gear 204 mph

7th gear...?...but I believe is a relaxed rpms "6th"

I'm betting 2nd gear will carry a bit further *at least* till 60 mph but probably till 62 mph. Slight power increase for t 2004 N/A series engines

Prasith32 do a search on the forums/germancarfans there is a fully detailed article on the new 7 G tranny. I believe it does let you skip gears but to what extent I am unsure about.

Pierre,

Quite a nice AMG stable you got going on there

I am currently in a very difficult dilemna between the slk55 or the lotus elise.

Anyways I wanted to ask you about the speeds for the gears. Don't you think with the amount of torque available that you could hit 60mph in 2nd gear?

I read everything I can about the 7G in various places and I am still confused about how it will work.

Is it going to be like the Audi DSG system?

Because there's seven gears do they just add it on to the final drive? In that case I am sure that all 7G cars should be able to hit near 200 easy?

I don't think that will be the case though.

However if they shorten it out too much then you will have to shift to third just to hit 60 and no matter how fast the shifts they will detract from the 0-60 time.

I don't see the sense of the 7G transmission unless it basically takes the same ratios and just adds more top speed to it. The torque and hp is increasing so why not?

What did you use to get those numbers.

Good work btw.

Prasith

Thanks!

I am agree that 2th is too short fot the huge torque...but I just plag the ratios and the red line...and those are the speed that the simulation showed me. I have done with several cars...and is quiet accurate.

The 7G is quiet simmilar to the AMG speedshif, goes from 5th to 3th or 7th to 5th, where OEM MB 5 speed auto used to go 5th to 4th. Also, the ratio between speeds is shoter, and mainly of acceleration of mid speeds like 30-70 mph or "roling"....may be reson of a shoter 2th...

Pierre, that is awesome car, Congratulations! But remember, DOOONT buy white SLK...almost every other color looks good for that kind of vehicle...somekind of blue/dark blue is my choice white is for taxis (here in finland especially) and mob-caddies , not for sport cars
