OMG SLK 63 AMG and more!
This information comes from Jesmb.de. I have been following this site for many years, and it seems that they are correct 99.9% of the time.
It is said that the 6.3 Litre V8 is already producing 500 HP and 600NM of torque - well within the 7G window, meaning that even the S, Cl, SL and E will all be able to get the 7G no problem.
I have my doubts about this engine being put in an SLK for one thing it would take a massive bite out of Sl63? AMG sales. Same engine + less weight = bad move.
The SL65s will still be the flagship - and therein lies another clue. S, CL and SL all have had various types of AMG versions - 55, 63 and 65 (rumours are afoot of 69 models too) why can't other models? Mercedes' marketing is all too aware that if a model exists, then it will sell. You only need to look through this forum to know that.
Also look at it this way, the new 4.6 Litre V8 will bring 360 HP. This is going to replace the 500 series across the range. Then there will be the 550 - a 5.3 Litre na V8 producing 410 HP. (S, SL, CL, and probably CLS and E too). Again, much more than the NA 55s at the moment. I can't see AMG letting a standard Mercedes approach them in power. This is one of the reasons why the 65 models were produced in the first place.
Don't expect the 63 engine in an SLK before 2006. I would imagine that current buyers would be mighty p****d off if a sparkley new SLK55 was trounced shortly after it's introduction.
My guess is that they will tip up after the mid-life face-lift.
Would there ever be a possibility of Mercedes making a standard 700 class? Ex: S700, SL700, CL700 ?
And general question: Why are we not seeing 'any' V10's from Mercedes?
Question is when will the 6.3 liter engine be released?

It seems to me that a much more likely choice for the SLK (and C and CLK, for that matter) the new 5.5L DOHC which will make about 410hp. In fact the C could even get away with the 4.6L DOHC at 360hp. That would leave the 6.3L for the E, CLS, SL, S, and CL (and I suppose the M, R, and G as well).
Of course the SL, S and CL will also continue with 600+ hp AMG V12s as well.

Notice this thread is over two years old (before most people would even accept that Mercedes was poised to replace the supercharged 5.4L motor with a naturally aspirated one). Since then it became known that the 6.3L was its own engine architecture, designed from ground up by AMG. It is their baby. Knowing this now, I of course, doubt AMG would forsake it and use the non-AMG 5.5L Mercedes DOHC V8 instead.

The C63 will be sold with the new W204 (sedan) end of 2007 in Europe. A SLK63 is not planned - not even in 2008.
cheers,
Tim

Apart the look, the performance is awesome, with massive torque natural aspirated. It is a beast!

So will the regular SLK will have the SLR-hood? Or by bulge-bonnet, are you referring to a different kind of bulge?
I am getting the 2007 SLK350, so I don't want the SLR-hood to disappear so quickly !!!
