I'd go for the SLK55...it handles very nicely and has plenty of power

e46 M3 = phased-out body design, last year of production
r171 SLK = new within the past year

For me it was an easy choice -- especially since I also have a deposit down for the 2007 e90 M3.

As for which is a better car... very hard to compare two vehicles so significantly different and designed for different purposes. V8 vs. I-6... hardtop convertible vs. coupe/softtop... 2 seater vs. 4 seater... etc etc...

brother has a M3 (E46), sister has a SLK55- and the SLK kills it, but the M3 is still a good car.

p.s. Be frank , SL55AMG costs USD 250K in HK , If you drive one of those here, who cares who is sitting next to you in the car. We usually assume this bunch of people can afford 'anything' 'any human' if they wanted to.

I think that the M3 is a great car... been there... done that!
The SLK is newer and definitely has more power...
While I have not gotten my 55... I would bet it gives the M3 a good run...
And you all know red is the fastest....

I'd have to agree...if you are comparing vert to vert, than the SLK55 will waste the M3 vert. Heck, even the SLK350 will hang or beat the M3 vert (I want to say the M3 vert numbers are like 0-60 in 5.4 sec)...

Yeah, the M3 vert is heavy.....about 400lbs heavier than the coupe.

I have the coupe, will be gone in a year or so though.....not sure what to do.

Boxter has a good preowned market in HK
Not sure about car buying culture in the States
here in HK, a SLK350 is "good enough"
Buying top range roadsters such as M Roadster , SLK55 AMG (115K)
are very very brave. definitely admirable
I have not met one SLK55 on the road yet :p
In terms of money SLK55 and Boxter-S are close; but and then, who would pay any attention to a BoxterS here in HK as they are all over
the place? ( generally who can really tell the differnece between old and a new Boxter ) At least SLK is a complete new look than previous version
And, the when the 362(7)hp engine comes in....MB rocks!
BTW, Where is the Z4 M Roadster ?
