Ever noticed this before ?
Went to my local dealer the other day and noticed these blanking plates on the new SLK, as usual the sales guys did not know what they were.

After taking a long look at the pictures, I believe those square things are the spots where u put the ski racks into. Porsche has them too. The car must have been ordered with it and sent to Canada or something and later shipped to USA. I dunno the real story though, that's just my guess.
Here are some suggestions:
-Don't take pictures really close to the car! We can't get an idea where the object is located.
-Get a better camera! Or camera phone!
-Order a different car if you don't like it!
-AND LOOK AT THE STICKER ON THE CAR! IT COMES WITH ALL THE ADDED OPTIONS ON IT!

where??????
where??????
I noticed your reflection in the SLK and I believe you are over 30 or 40 years of age. Now I will be 18 in 6 months. It is really funny how a older guy does not know anything about a sticker and I have to tell you about it.
Who buys a car without looking at the sticker?
I guess you do!

Part of the problem is the pic is not oriented (as posted) in the "normal" orientation, as you would see it on the car.
I believe, those are for the factory roof rack. Which BTW I would never left anything harder/heavier than a cotton towel to the roof of my car.
On a "normal" car you do not have those (i.e. they are not standard on all SLK).
