SLK55 is a very sexy roadster .... I like it very much!! Since my girlfriend has been driving her SC430 for over 3 yrs now, we are planning to get her a new car... She claims that hard-top convertible is a must-have, so I showed her this beautiful SLK55 and she seems really satisfied with the look.... My concerns are, 1st, since AMG released its new 6.2L V8, I don't know how long this 55 enigne could carry on, well at least for 2006 but I can't see its future... Any rumours about possible powerplant for C, SLK and CLK?? Since they are low-end models compared to S, CL, SL.... So I hardly believe they will use the same engine system as high-end models..... 2nd, how's the HK sound system and comfort of SLK55 since SC430 has very good sound and comfort.... 3rd, is it possible to ask for discount?? I can only speak of having test driven the SLK55. It is a nice roadster. the engine is perfect for the size and i have no doubt your partner will be very pleased although i found it more of a sports car than a grand tourer. Here in the UK we have so many speed cameras around i would not have been able to appreciate it fully - but then I always wonder how people with porche carerra Sports cope! With regards the new engine I have not heard when Mercedes are going to place it in the SLK but i presume it will not be for some time as it hasn't even made it onto their main models and they wouldn't want to depreciate the 55 so fast. As for the sound I found it ok - Mercedes don't make the best ICE but it's not bad. As for deals I would be very surprised if you can get a lot off as they don't make many and there is a huge demand - the one i test drove was sold hours later but no harm in asking - they can only say no.

Definitely get the '55. My fiancee wanted the 350 but I convinced her to get the '55 since I was gonna help her w/ the downpayment.

Thank you too MGV156!! Actually, the price of a fully loaded SLK350 is not far away from SLK55 but I guess SLK55 holds its value much better in NA.... I'll probably go for white exterior since gf's SC430 is a white on white.....

I've beent hinking about the same thing but right now i kinda hold back because alot people have been saying that slk63 will be out soon.

Who ever these "alot people" are, they are confused. In general, there is still a good wait for an SLK55 (unless you fall into a cancelled order slot or pay above MSRP).

You won't see an "SLK63" in your local dealer until AT BEST Sept '06. Which means on average you couldn't get one until 6 months after that (unless you have a deposit down and get one of the first). And it could, quite probably, be a year after that (that is it might be an '08 model).

Net: time to you being able to owns an "SLK63" is 1.5 to 2 years

exactly...I don't envisage they will depreciate the value of the 55 so much. You will know when the 63 will come out (although there are rumours it might even be a 69!) as the engine will be available in other models...or they will be giving lots of free extras on the 55 to encourage a sudden surge in demand before the release.

My advice - if u want the 55 just go for it and enjoy - life's too short.

I'm driving a 2006 SLK55, and I think it's a great all around car. It looks great, it's fast, and it's got all the bells and whistles. BTW, I think the sound system's pretty good. There's no point in playing the waiting game for the new engine. As an earlier poster noted, if it comes out at all, it'll likely be 1.5 years away. This waiting game is akin to chasing technology, such as computers - they're "outdated" in 6 months, and you just have to bite the bullet when you're ready to buy!

Thank all you guys for the help!! Well, I'm quite confused now.... Every time I look at white SLK55 pics, it's just so sexy.... But on the other hand, even new S500 will have around 390hp and it'll make to the showroom in this september!! OMG, I'll have to go take a test drive and it might change my thought right away....

Im in the same boat... but for sure I will have to wait till the new S comes out and see what they will do to the AMG line.
