No PS2 on 19" 8.5 & 9.5 says WheelExperts

According to Peter at WheelExperts, the SLK55 is not recommended to be wrapped in PS2's when fitted with 19" 8.5 & 9.5 wheels because of rubbing possibilities. I'm not making an argument, just am disappointed :v

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Should I just take the hit and give it a try anyway?

Dinko,
Unfortunately they are are right The PS 2's have a square shape, and they will create more rubbing then other tires. I have the same issues with my HRE's. HRE will not sell any wheels with PS2's on them.
The problem is a little more complex, then just tires for the SLK. There is a bracket, which holds the front bumper, in front of the tires. That particular bracket may also cut into the tire.
My dealer diagnosed the problem and removed that particular bracket, so the potential damage to the tire was eliminated.
Regards,
Dan

That's the only problem you had? No rear issues?
Would you recommend me using PS2's with the HRE's?

Why not give the S0-3's a try if the PS2's don't work?

I'm very bias to Michelin. I have them on my stock 18's for about a month now and they couldn't be better. I'll probably go with the Pirelli Rosso's.

I went from Rosso to PS2 and I recommend highly! You will notice MUCH less wheelspin. Be sure to order from Tire Rack, they have the best possible price.

Considering that the tire is made out of a softer compound, I would think that it feels a bit "softer" now. I could be wrong, I did not take a before & after analysis To the fact that the tire is softer, and will wear quicker it is also stickier. Cornering is much improved in my opinion. I hope that the Rosso's will do the same as they will be wider on the 19's. Fingers crossed.

rosso's are the best in a stright line , even in a corner , but you dont know the limit, this is the problem , the steering feel is soft and you cant know much about the road feel alot... as you would in a Porsche...

the only problem in pirelli's that they are the "erasers tires"... they dont last long...

Dinko,

I am like you, very biased with the PS 2's. My handling, cornering and feel for the road, changed dramatically by moving from Pirelli to Michelin PS2's. Not quite a big surprise, knowing that the Porches and M3s often have Michelins PS2’s and are praised for the handling and road feel by the journalists.
HRE WILL NOT recommend using PS2's on their wheels. Nevertheless, if you are patient and like to experiment a little bit, you can try the following: address the issue of the front fender bracket, roll out fenders, consider negative camber in the front and back, etc. I do not have any major rear issue problem. In fact, if you will have some minor negative camber in the rear, you will fix a potential rubbing issue and seriously improve the handling of your car.
You just need to find out a good alignment shop, specialized in racing.
I hope this will help.
Dan

Since I don't like modifying the car, unless it is Computer relatred, or easy bolt-on's, I'd rather not mess with it. Pirelli's should do the job. Besides, I'm not Schumacher

I will miss the PS2's though, that I know.

I'd consider rolling the fenders. This has been posted before.

Best of luck.

What is the cost of rolling the fenders? Will it look any different? Better/Worse?

Not about that, I just don't want to modify the car right now. I'll go through a set of Rosso's, and if I'm not completely happy with them, then I will roll the fenders and stick with the PS2's.

P.S. Wheels should be here in about 5 weeks! Can't wait!

I hear that 5 weeks is a fairly good time to wait for HRE's. Average wait is about 6 - 8 weeks on this board.

5 weeks is about average...not long, not short. All three times I got mine within 6 weeks from the day I ordered.
