Unrestricted top speed?
Picked up an 06 slk55amg yesterday and was wondering what the unrestricted top speed is?
Who offers a this service? Kleeman, Renntech or someone else?
Awesome car, i'm sure this will impact sl55amg sales.
..and i know this thread sucks without a picture but i dont know how upload one yet

To upload a picture, just scroll down a bit in the page where you type your message. There's a button called "Manage Attachments", click on it and the rest is pretty much self explanatory.
Concerning the top speed, I know mine goes past 250kph, but the limiter still begins to act up on me just before I hit the 260kph mark. The 030 Performance package moves the top speed limit to 280kph, so we know it can do at least this much.
From what I've seen with cars in general, 400hp is enough to get up to 300kph, and in some cases even go past it. I read a few years back that the calculated top speed of the SLK 32 AMG with a pulley upgrade (bringing it up to ~400hp) would have been 298kph, or something like that. With the improved gearbox in the SLK, a 400hp engine could even break this barrier, but IMO the most realistic number is somewhere around 285-290kph... Usually at those speeds, you need to have like 10hp extra for every 1kph more in speed due to drag.
But I'm not an expert on this, and I don't remember if Kleemann, Brabus, Renntech or company have offered any delimited chips, and if so, at up to what speed for the car in question...

MKB has a Vmax delimiter for the SLK55.

Don't know how far above that you could go, but for short time durations, you would probably be ok for another 10mph or so.

From what i know it seems some 'y' rated tires are fine above 186 mph without issue.
I also have a 2003 z06 with an LPE 427 TT and have been to 200 mph (gps) with Pirelli Rosso rears and BF Goodridge Comp t/a's on the front without tire issues.

If the 55 can indeed go up to 300kph, then that's quite an achievement, but does it hit this speed at 6500rpm, or does it hit it at 7000 (in the rpm red-range)?

BTW Carlsson "limits" theirs to 315 Km/h

Tire ratings are for "sustained speeds" as on a track/autobahn.
see tire racks notes below.
While a Z-speed rating still often appears in the tire size designation of these tires, such as 225/50ZR16 91W, the Z in the size signifies a maximum speed capability in excess of 149 mph, 240 km/h; the W in the service description indicates the tire's 168 mph, 270 km/h maximum speed.
225/50ZR16 in excess of 149 mph, 240 km/h
205/45ZR17 88W 168 mph, 270 km/h
285/35ZR19 99Y 186 mph, 300 km/h
Most recently, when the Y-speed rating indicated in a service description is enclosed in parentheses, such as 285/35ZR19 (99Y), the top speed of the tire has been tested in excess of 186 mph, 300 km/h indicated by the service description as shown below:
285/35ZR19 99Y 186 mph, 300 km/h
285/35ZR19 (99Y) in excess of 186 mph, 300 km/h
As vehicles have increased their top speeds into Autobahn-only ranges, the tire speed ratings have evolved to better identify the tires capability, allowing drivers to match the speed of their tires with the top speed of their vehicle.

Yes, I'm aware of Tirerack's description, BUT again saying in excess of 186mph doesn't really spec anything. It could be an excess of 1mph.
In engineering terms, that is a NON-specification.

Well the fun stops at 157 mph, and the speedo is very accurate.
100 mph indicated equals 99.8 mph on gps.
Based on the way the car is still pulling hard at 155 mph, i would estimate it should be good for a true 175 to 180 mph

It's the "030 Performance Package" for the SLK55, which includes a track -oriented suspension, bigger brakes, a higher electronic speed limit (but otherwise the same ECU program) and some cabon fiber trim bits. It's about $6K
